Black is a genetic mutation same as gold is. That's basically how the Chinese developed Koi fish and goldfish. Selective breeding mutations together. Just like having a blue budgie etc blue budgies occur in the wild but the other budgies won't breed with them an hawks can single out a blue from all the green ones. That's why we don't see wild blue budgies. I don't think a carp would care what colour is partner is though.

@@robbiefishing I got the Ryobi 32v leaf blower too, that thing is more powerful than the Stihl petrol blowers. And you only need the one battery to swap between the two. Contact Ryobi they might send you one when they see how many subscribers you have. They even have 18v fans that are really good. I have the 18 volt vaccuum which I'm not that impressed with but their 18v impact wrench is amazing. I keep that in my car with a set of sockets for car wheels incase of a flat tyre. I even have a medium sized trolley jack I keep in the car. Flat tyre changes only take 5 mins with little effort.

Hi Mate. Mice vid as always. Just a quick question..... Do you think the native species are winning the battle against the Carp? With all you fresh water fisho's disposing of the Carp whenb you catch them? Also is there Carp only fishing competitions that run that help keep the numbers down? If not it would be a great idea if State Governments funded sucj comps. Cheers
@robbiefishing
@robbiefishing 9 ай бұрын
Hi mate, there certainly are carp only competitions. They're a lot of fun. Unfortunately fishing pressure has little to no impact on carp numbers. Other fish impact them more. Predatory fish such as Murray cod and yellowbelly have a greater impact on carp than anglers ever could. We kill them, and pat ourselves on the back, but the reality is that carp are such prolific feeders that all we are doing is freeing up good for the remaining carp to grow bigger and spawn again. If a waterway is healthy and had a lot of native fish, it certainly helps with the carp population.

I have caught a few dark ones before but never that dark, almost looked a bit of a koi x carp Well apart from that the rest of the fishing was "pretty" successful, the one that got away after he was got 😅 had that happen a few times As for the carp putting the pine over the back fin, i have seen them doing that on purpose in clear water, you get it off and they do it again by rolling. Plenty of fish landed in the end to make up the lost 1 👍

Thanks mate. I have never seen one that dark either. I have cut my finger open on that spine on their back spin. LOL

I guess with the prolific amount of eggs Carp release, if there's a chance of a 1-1mil mutation happening to get a different colour it'll happen from time to time. From a biological perspective there's also 3 different strains of the European/Common carp in Australia- a Singapore, Ornamental and a Hybrid which got released in the 1800's to plague us with their stinky presence. When you do mix strains there's all kinds of weird hybrid vigour. mutations and differences that happen over time as well, considering they spawn every year for the last 150 odd years there's probably bound to be an increase in the couple of weirdos combining all that genetic difference. At least you are a bit better in this video, seemed pretty haggard in the trout fishing one!

The history of carp is not quite that simple or as described. The Prospect population stemmed from a introduction in the 1850s and is recognised as the oldest strain. Yanco, sometime in the 30s possibly an introduction during the depression. These were of limited viability and spread slowly. The Boolara strain was a game changer. A hybrid carp developed in Victoria apparently from a German strain. This is the one that was adapted to our conditions, was introduced in the 1960s and spent 20 years being spread around and facing unimpeded spread due to the lack of natives until the mid to late 80s when the breeding facilities made some breakthroughs and these became commercially viable to breed. The fact that we had denuded our rivers through drum netting and set lining, clearing, grazing and other land use allowed the Boolara carp to spread without competition and they were introduced and welcomed in many waterways. Their "stinky presence" is highly overblown in the category of things that are wrong with out waterways, they are a convenient scapegoat for many mismanagement practices in place. All 3 strains are shown to have come from European sources through DNA analyses. The Koi and Goldfish hybridise freely with carp, being to all intents and purposes carp themselves. These are, of course, Asian introductions.
