I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve had horses my whole life and lost one about 10 years ago so I feel your pain. Outside of seeing them under anesthesia, I’ve never seen one adopt that stance. It’s highly suspect that it happened on the same day the trespassers were there. I’d hate to think that they would have given the donkey something that could have caused that. You did the best you could do by her and most importantly, you didn’t let her suffer.

You need a Great Pyrenees…they come up in anza, and garner valley quite a bit for close to free. If you’re interested i can put some feelers out to a family friend who just got a Great Pyrenees for their ranch

Hey Ryan. I believe you need to put taller fence and put electric lines on the fence. And put a few 8 foot poles with spot lights and some cameras. But to stop people coming in put tall electric fence with barbed wire or razor wire on top.! I’m sorry for lost. 😭 Hope we could help as fans of your.

She looked almost exactly like my sisters horse when we had to put her down. (Colic, was not able to fix it without surgery and closest place is 8h away, would be cruelty to let her go through that for a small chance of it working) You can just tell when they are done. I'm so sorry for your loss. With the swelling of her face and the place she was in, she could have potencially rolled herself into the ditch and got stuck on her back for a long time. (Long time for equines is not that long, they are not made for laying down sleep)

Right before sale of property we lost a donkey to snake bite. Very sad. Donkeys are the best pets. We also lost two goats due to neighbors dogs running in packs. Needless to say...a few of those dogs are not running anymore!!

My dad bought a 2 year old horse and he was an awesome horse, was kinda slowing down and acting weird come to find out he had cancer to the point the vet said just put him down it is everywhere!! Sadly that's just owning animals and living, tomorrow could be you day could not!

Ryan man you gotta get a few livestock gaurdian dogs. You raise them as puppies with the livestock and they do the rest. Great pyraneese are one of the many breeds. But thats there purpose is to protect the goats and donkeys and fowl. They are ecpensive but will die fighting coyotes off and most the time them just being there will be enough to keep them away. But i would also recommend lockup at night. Maybe set up a paddock connected to the kennels so they have a bit more room

Adopt a Pyrenees mountain dog. I fostered one in Denver. They are dogs that want to sleep all day and be awake at night. All she wanted to do was stay outside at night and protect. Woke up one morning with a dead coyote in my back yard. Tons of them up due adoption because people love the look of them but can't stand how they bark at any little noise at night 7:02
