I found this podcast interesting and particularly the segment on sleep, which is such an understated enabler of many things. Good insight into what this MIT professor would be discussing in his classes.

Yes, let’s make everything about everything. Economics is about the softness of my mattress and applying common sense as if it is some scientific insight. Sleeping better results in higher work accuracy? That needs a grant. Models of complex living mechanisms need to be multi-factor? People focus on short term gain? How ever will we get people to do what they should in self interest?

If you want to maximize wellbeing of all people, look at the economic model of Finland. I have lived my whole life in Finland, and every country feels like a 3rd world country compared to our economic and societal model.

Wrong! Homo oeconomicus is false idea. Human beeing is acting not on pure oeconomical reasons. Human beeing - as "Human action" (L.von Mises), or self-reflection teaches us - is acting on favor of broad-understood self interests. And these interests are not pure oeconomical.

There is no poverty. There is only economic oppression and resulting psychological slavery. A single human family unit needs absolutely nothing that 5 acres of land could not provide them. With access to modern technology and information, this same family unit can achieve peak economic gains from 5 acres of land fully supporting every possible economic need that family may have indefinitely, and do so entirely with unskilled human labor. Any 5 acres of diminished land that isn't permanently shadowed by topology from the sun is functional to process organic waste, harvest solar energy, and produce natural fertilizers while repairing the Rhizosphere of that diminished 5 acres. Encouraging textile and agricultural development through this process also results in a vast array of highly sustainable consumer products. Depending on the land's soil composition and local flora/fauna, much of the family unit's dietary needs can also be met. And nothing settles a human mind more than having a purpose. Giving people the "Job" of sequestering carbon from the atmosphere into the Rhizosphere by producing natural fertilizers with their own two hands is a hell of a purpose. Making that job valuable enough to keep millions of those family units all thriving is the real trick. How do you convince millions of people to abandon cities their parents and grandparents died to build, and all the opportunities those cultural centers have to offer, in favor of being dirt farmers? They all seem to have it so nice, packed into lines waiting for services, because there isn't enough value in an hour of their time to fill an old pot with piss. If we could just find a way to convince people to stop chasing a life of poverty to power other's ambitions. But if we do... ...and the napkin math holds up, it will require around 5 million family units(per continent) each turning over 5 acres of diminished land into fully rehabilitated and productive ecosystems every 3 years to, by 2050, erase the carbon crisis from the big chalk board tsunami of problems on the wall under the doomsday clock. The crisis may never be gone, but centuries of time can be added to the countdown giving Life on the planet the time we ALL desperately need to brace for these changes. Life is carbon sequestration. If we rehabilitate global ecosystems we do so by a singular means, by pulling carbon from the atmosphere into flora to feed and support fauna. Life is a globally scaling carbon battery. A highly profitable one. There is a place where this can easily happen in North America where almost no one lives. Right down the center of the continent from the Rocky mountains East. It would cost very little to migrate 5 million dirt farmers in, house them, connect them to services, and enable them to be as successful as they are inspired to be. Far less than was just sent to Ukraine as discretionary military spending. But why solve poverty and the carbon crisis in the same go by rebuilding the heavily eroded true foundation of Western Culture, the Family Unit, when we can compartmentalize the issue into a nightmare of twisted minds seeking peace from the notion that their efforts are meaningless down pay-per-step pathways designed to corrupt and enslave. At least then the masses can power the endeavors of a few and there's more profit to extract from the working slave's wages. They gotta eat. Or you could pry open my head and try to find it later, when I forget this dumpster ever called my mother's honor into question. I can see everything you can't from over here, where Sanity is just a guy we all thought we used to know in a life we can't remember. Exactly how silly you are being and how easy it would be to save you from yourselves. You bite and claw at your own notions of self in a war against little versions of yourself you've placed in borrowed shoes around you, in a simulation your brain fabricates entirely, based on beeps and clicks your nervous system makes in response to who the fk knows what's really out there. I see the dark things plucking your wires from between too... but you aren't ready for that yet. Haven't even conquered dirt farming. Everything in the Universe happens 1 step at a time. And it is time for everyone to take a few small steps in the right direction or some of those dark things will reveal themselves, ready or no. tick tock
