I have had one of the We1010 soldering irons, I would be very interested in what you think about the after market tips and where you got them from, as I need a replacement.. I replaced my sponge with a 5x pack of aftermarket ones and they are horrible. However, they are just about worth using before buying some better ones.

Sorry, but I would return it and purchase an Aixun T3A for around $100 with 3 C245 JBC-style cartridge tips, handle, and a metal stand from Amazon. It's a night and day difference in performance compared to the Weller. It's well made with an aluminum case and a large screen that supports downloadable firmware updates. It also accepts T12, 907 and C118 handles and tips. SDG Electronics has an entire review of the product.

Very disappointed in Weller. It has now become a "used2be". This model we1010NA does not have a backlit screen. This means you have to put the unit directly in front of you to see the text. Forget about putting it up on a shelf or even at some other angle that is not in front of you. Another problem is that there is no way of knowing that the unit is on. If you turn off the lights in your workroom, there is no way of knowing that the unit is still on and will stay on all night. I returned the unit and purchased a HAKKO fx888d. Far superior product. It reminds me of what Weller used2be.
