Lyrics Here! There once was a ship that put to sea And the name of that ship was the Billy of Tea The winds blew up, her bow dipped down Blow, me bully boys, blow Soon may the Wellerman come To bring us sugar and tea and rum One day, when the tonguin' is done We'll take our leave and go She had not been two weeks from shore When down on her a right whale bore The captain called all hands and swore He'd take that whale in tow Soon may the Wellerman come To bring us sugar and tea and rum One day, when the tonguin' is done We'll take our leave and go Before the boat had hit the water The whale's tail came up and caught her All hands to the side, harpooned and fought her When she dived down below Soon may the Wellerman come To bring us sugar and tea and rum One day, when the tonguin' is done We'll take our leave and go No line was cut, no whale was freed; The Captain's mind was not of greed But he belonged to the whaleman's creed; She took that ship in tow Soon may the Wellerman come To bring us sugar and tea and rum One day, when the tonguin' is done We'll take our leave and go For forty days, or even more The line went slack, then tight once more All boats were lost, there were only four But still that whale did go Soon may the Wellerman come To bring us sugar and tea and rum One day, when the tonguin' is done We'll take our leave and go As far as I've heard, the fight's still on; The line's not cut and the whale's not gone The Wellerman makes his a regular call To encourage the Captain, crew, and all Soon may the Wellerman come To bring us sugar and tea and rum One day, when the tonguin' is done We'll take our leave and go Soon may the Wellerman come To bring us sugar and tea and rum One day, when the tonguin' is done We'll take our leave and go

@bobcatthekittykat10752 жыл бұрын
Can u explain what this means?
@n8gixx6smith502 жыл бұрын
@@bobcatthekittykat1075 it's the story of the billy-O-tea, a captain and crew who battle a wale through the ages, the wellerman (Weller brothers) were supply ships that would resupply waler ships and even pirate ships. Therefore unaffected by piracy as pirates knew without them there would be no more rum being supplied at sea. "Tounging" sounds dirty and funny but is actually describing one of the worst jobs in world history (to strip the blubber from a rotting wale) Long story short "as far as Ive heard the fights still on, the lines not cut and the Wales not gone, The wellerman makes his regular call to encourage the captain crew and all"! Hope that answers your question my friend! Also I could be off on my info I researched this song myself and this was what I got out of it🤘🤘

"Soon May the Wellerman Come" (often shortened to "Wellerman") is a 19th-century sea shanty originally from New Zealand. It centers around a whaling crew's anticipation of a Wellerman, a supply ship owned by the Weller brothers, bringing crucial provisions including sugar, tea, and rum. The song's exact authorship and date are unknown, but its lyrics likely originated from shore-based whalers in New Zealand in the mid-1800s. The song gained a surge in popularity in early 2021 due to a viral cover by Scottish singer Nathan Evans on TikTok. Secondary Source: Colquhoun, Neil. "Soon May the Wellerman Come." New Zealand Folk Songs. Wellington, NZ: AH & AW Reed, 1972.
