If you paint rocks red and put them in your strawberry patch a month before the strawberries come in, the birds and squirrels will go to eat them then realize they are rocks. then when your strawberries come in they think those are rocks 😉 worked like a charm for me this year, i had triple what i usually have cuz there were no critters eating them and i didn’t have a net or fence

Personally, I like to leave a little bit of my garden's harvest for the local wildlife. I think it's nice to share a few strawberries or cabbages with the critters-they're just trying to survive too. I wish more people could do the same 🥺

If you haven't yet watched to the end of the vlog, it is entirely worth it for Josie's pigeon impression! As a Northerner, I can confirm that Tebay services is equally as wonderful as Gloucester and you can sit outside and enjoy fantastic views over to the Lake district fells 💗

Sorry Josie you are wrong! It was Cumbria that led the way with boogie farm shops. Tebay opened probably 20 years ago and has more recently opened Gloucester and ??? For all those years Tebay was the only decent farm shop in the UK. Westmorland is a part of Cumbria hence the name. I think I am right in saying that the original owners,who may have been farmers, employed a buyer from Harris Food Hall, to set it up. It isn’t often the north has anything to shout about in terms of farm shops, but we can claim this one! 🤣

Gloucester services is owned by the Westmorland Family, a Cumbrian family. They opened Tebay services many many decades ago here in Cumbria. We also have Reghed which is also owned by them. Gloucester by comparison is new! Cumbria led the way! 😊There are probably many more ‘farm’ shops up here in beautiful rural Cumbria.

There's a service station in the Lake District which is like Gloucester Services. Bizarrely, there's a documentary about it on channel 4, as it was so unique. I think the one in the Lake District opened in the 70s and was one of its kind for a long time.

Hi Josie. I’ve been following you since last Christmas since we went to the Cotswald and fell in love! Here is a tip to avoid the almost inevitable 'plane air conditioning' cold when you travel, given to me by my GP who said she was fed up with getting a head cold on the outgoing journey of a vacation, then recovering during the two/three week holiday and then getting another infection on the return journey. She recommended First Defence micro nasal spray (Vicks) it coats the inside of the nose where most bugs proliferate. It works for everyone I've passed this tip to and of course is also recommended for use and the very very first sign of a sore tickly throat, sneezing etc.

I never ever get bored with your gardening. Hubby has just ordered me some proper garden scissors that is the final tool I need. Sadly, we are in a heatwave & drought. Thus far, I have lost my Delphiniums, Sweet Williams, Shasta Daisies are not looking good, and the trustworthy Nasturtiums are pathetic. I am recycling water to my best. Oh, the dreaded amphids are here also to eat stuff so I'm spraying Neme Oil on everything. Needless to say, watching you & your gorgeous garden keeps me plodding on and cheers me up.

Oh the AC “cold”! I feel you! Every year when the AC and the heat as well where I live (it’s electric) kills me! But I’m always wondering if it’s actually dust and or mold!?? Every summer when it goes on! And I truly feel how clean is an AC!? Can one truly keep an AC free from mold!? I hate them but I need them here in MA we’re having a bit of a heat wave! Usually I get a lovely breeze from the ocean a mile away 😢I hate using them, but a necessary evil! 💕

I sympathize about your foot. Last year when I was cat sitting for a friend after my knee replacement surgery, I dropped a full water bottle on my big toe and broke it, and ended up losing the toenail. So I do understand the dangers of water bottles! The next week, I missed a step and fell and sprained my ankle pretty badly. We have the klutz gene in my family.
