She finds the words to express the feelings we never thought others felt, that it wasnt worthy enough to be made into a song, or didn’t even know they could be defined! I think this is where she’s unmatched in her songwriting. Tons of incredible writers out there but only she can take pieces of emotions and put them to such beautiful words that you can’t help but feel connected to her

Yes, and then create a beautiful emotive melody to seamlessly integrate those words into.

The first version of this came out 10 years ago I was 18 and had just gone through my first heartbreak and would listen to this everyday in the car and cry lol and now I’m 28 and she came out with the 10 minute version and I listened to it in the car and still teared up a little bit when trying to sing it. So powerful!❤ #jaketake 😂

Jake Take! And yes, Ryan, you nailed it. Swifties do like watching non-fans become fans. And we LOVE to tell you the lore and suggest what to watch. I'll use this opportunity to once again pitch Miss Americana. You don't get 'live' Taylor any more than that. Not so much performances. But her telling her story, in an incredibly gripping way. It will really fill the gaps on your 'learning'. 🙂

This song is definitely autobiographical, she herself said in Directors on Directors with Martin McDonagh that emotionally she was going through EXACTLY what the short film depicts.

Many make a living out of acting but not great actors. Taylor can act. People trashed the movie Cats, but she was actually very good in it. The critics was hard on the movie but praised Taylor. Also, no one ever performed for 10 minutes on SNL. Only Ms Swift. Her celeb friends came out to support her. Thanks again gents for continuing to react to Taylor's music.

Taylor is one of the greatest exponents, who has ever lived, of what I call eternal songs. They are the songs that the very first time you hear them they sound familiar like they have always existed. Yet everytime you hear them after that they are new and they never lose their emotional impact. And this song is the greatest demonstration of Taylor's particular talent. It's a lyrical genius working at the peak of her power...

The difference of TS singing it at the Grammys when it was a new song for her was hard to watch bc for her it was so hard for her to sing it as she was crying and she was so emotionally connected to the song but she’s stated that over the years it’s become a song she really enjoys singing live because her fans will sing all the words with her and now it feels like everybody’s song. My Jake take is that you should next watch her sing th Monologue Song from the only time she hosted SNL when she was 19 - apparently she was the first guest host who ever wrote her own opening monologue and they were so impressed with it . Seth Meyers has said on his show that he regrets not showing her what they’d written for her because compared to what she produced it was terrible & she came in with this song that was so funny and perfect for a monologue because she just though she was meant to write her own monologue - hence Monologue Song (La La La) is a deep cut that only true fans know about and appreciate it’s history. And she did it at 19!

If you listen to the original “All Too Well” song released on the Red Album it is like a shorter 4 minute version and it omits a lot of parts including discussions of the age gap and other pointed lines and in that way I feel like that song is more relatable. While I do love the 10 minute version the shorter version is my favorite.

At the time, she was (according to SNL) the only host to write their monologue completely solo. No clue if that’s changed since, or how writing credits are broken down to actually confirm decades back 😂 But either way - her writing & cheeky delivery of ‘Monologue Song’ was an iconic moment in culture.

Jake take. This was one of the songs (the short version) that made me became a swiftie (or so) some years ago. After 1989, before Reputation. Amazing song, the 10 minute version it´s even better. It´s a song from the album Red, now re-recorded yes, Red Taylor's Version now. Such an underrated album... One of the critics from Rolling Stone Magazine recently said that he still regrets what he wrote, but the record label only played him 5 songs (the ones he dislikes the most still today) and that that piece was probably one of the biggest mistakes of his career. It´s an album with a lot of influences and good songs, mixed generes, yes, but still. After not winning a single grammy and almost crying during the perfomance at the piano of the old/shorter version of this song, she sent to hell all the advice from his record company, he wrote down the name of his future album, 1989, said to herself, I´m starting tomorrow, he called Jack Antonoff (already a good friend), and said, let's do this, I want it to sound like this and I want you to help me. And 1989 was born.

And yes, I think that the magic of the songs from TS (and most of the biggest artists) it´s that writing about personal experiences they do it in a way that many people can relate. She also is extremely descriptive, it´s... like watching a movie. Like in the song Red, when she describes al the stages of a relationship (not happy ending) with colours and comparisons and metaphors. All stages... in one song: falling in love, loving him, loosing him, missing him... Great reaction again. It´s fun being other people fall down the rabbit hole as I did not so long ago, guys. Welcome to the club. (And really, when do you both guys find the time to do all this reactions and editing???? With twins and being a teacher...? I mean... You make me feel lazy)

Poor Jake. Almost a decade after the breakup, she still haunts his life. I wonder if more than a decade from now we'll be looking at the "Gyllenhaal anthology" and not remembering him for his many great movie roles, but for this one great supporting actor role in an epic 10 minute rant set to music?
