I was 52 driving to work bawling my eyes out when Red TV came out earlier than morning. Went straight to A2W (10 min) and let the waves wash over me. It's stunning really. I don't know how she improved on: "And you call me up again just to break me like a promise So casually cruel in the name of bein' honest I'm a crumpled-up piece of paper lyin' here" but she did...by adding: "They say all's well that ends well, but I'm in a new hell Every time you double-cross my mind"

I totally agree with you about this version being unforgiving both in her delivery vocally speaking and the lyrics choices she made (the saving grace is that the video show Taylor being actually really happy while singing it, she is amazing like that)... I need years to recover from this, and I already had an hard time with the "original" version, aka I needed a good cry ever so often while listening to it, to think that this is worse..I will not survive

The first part is angrer with a bit of bittersweetness from the lovers stay my age line, but then it's more of a quiet hurt. It's just a girl, asking a boy she loved if he remembers their story. The only way Jake would make it out alive is if he just acknowledged it. Yes, I do. I remember.

I totally agree with you, this is her best song, art and work,and if not the greatest probably one of the greatest songs ever made in music history. The lyrics, are so damn poetic and despite being so long, it's not repetitive. You can clearly visualise the experience she went through because of how beautiful and detailed it is. “What did this man do??” WELL the scarf is allegedly a metaphor for her virginity as well as being a real scarf, so in theory, he stole her virginity (the one thing he didn’t give back, “crumpled up paper” is a religious metaphor for saying you can’t be the same after losing it), never said I love you even though they dated for like 6 months (that we know of, on and off), kept going back and forth for months, gaslit her into thinking it was her own fault, bailed on her birthday??? then told her she was too immature for it to work. He was using her as arm candy and for clout he never actually cared, that’s what she’s realizing. Also rumoured he cheated on her or at least lied about who he was seeing (state of grace? I think?).
