Welsh gold nuggets and pickers - MrDazP1's Gold Panning Experience

On this mini adventure I found a nice gold picker by gold sniping, which is where you put your wetsuit on and look for the gold in the river with your own eyes. Meanwhile some friends who were sluicing the bedrock gravels found a lovely Welsh gold gold nugget.

i read a story sometime ago saying that the "golden fleece" and being "fleeced" were linked because at some point in time it was illegal to leave the "fleece" of a sheep in the rivers because it would collect the gold .........hence the term ""being fleeced".......fleeced of your gold.........your gold-in fleece.

The golden fleece actually works, they call it miners moss nowadays , it's like what they use in fish pond filters. The Chinese in the gold rush times used to make clothing with little pockets sewn in everywhere. This trapped the gold dust. The Chinese would offer clean clothing for the miners having washed it the day before and collected all the gold.

Another good video to watch tonight 👌,off on a little journey myself next week all be it not a recorded gold bearing river but a private river hoping to maybe find something or at least the heavy so I know I'm doing something correct 😀

Thank you Liam, Look for the the little cracks in the bedrock on the sides of the river and scrape them out. You should find the black sands in there which is a good sign you are on the right line. Don't forget to keep an eye for lead shot in the pan too as you prospect the areas. Best of luck on you trip.

@@MrDazP1adv3ntures thanks daz certainly will,I have to laugh my paystreak sluice is too big to walk around with incognito so I purchased a backpack sluice for it to turn up and fit in the palm of my hand so don't think I'll be moving much bedrock 😂,I'm just interested that there's 10 acre of private land the river runs through and maybe nobody has prospected it,also there's been some big hoards of Anglo-Saxon silver in the nearby areas of river Bank so should have some fun with the detector 😁

Hi Daz, I'm from north wales and have spent time in all the mines in the area. Never tried panning though, but after watching your content I do fancy an hour or 2 minute river M. What's the legalities? I've read articles of people getting fined. Thanks mate 👍

Hi Danny, the stories you may have read were probably rather unique towards a certain individual. Rightly or wrongly the agencies got together to make their point. People still go panning in Wales, but tend to keep themselves to themselves. Low key and out of site out of mind. May be there's nothing to loose if you contacted George Frangeskides at Alba and requested permission from him to sample the river gravels for recreational panning purposes, he could be happy for you to do so...

Have a look on the interwebs at the Dolgellau Gold belt in Wales. Then look on mindat for mines and quarries that are close to where the Dolgellau Gold belt runs through the mountains. Even if you just go up a mountain you'll find places yourself where you could start, from flowing rivers to quartz veins that I have found to contain gold too

You need to look for the decomposing bedrock. scrape it and suck up all the loose stuff plus the sediment. The small gold will be hiding amongst it all.

I'd always try to seek permission where ever possible but if you take a picnic bag with you which might also have a gold pan in there, and you're out of sight and out of mind, you could have a little prospect in between the sausage rolls and the packet of Quavers 😉

LOL what a beautiful place, i live in Cardiff, South Wales but don't recognise the area, where about was this filmed daz? i can understand if your reluctant to share the location so i don't want specifics! would love to take the kids for a bike ride and a dip there in the summer, that water at 9:00 is absolutely stunning! and besides i haven't got a scooby doo or the equipment to find any gold anyway! 🤣👍🏻

Hello Jimmy, this was filmed somewhere in North Wales near Snowdonia. You need to get yourself a pan and a few bits of basic kit. I once spoke with a prospector who lived near South Wales who found gold in the rivers near the old coal mines.

I would look at finding very quiet locations near Dolgellua, out of sight out of mind as it's still a bit of a taboo subject in Wales. The gold belt stretches all the way through up into the mountains of Rhobell Fawr. There are people panning the usual spots still.

I'd say just go for it to be honest. Your biggest factor will be safety. There is so much to learn and if there's no gold there, it doesn't matter. It is all good practice. If there is a gravel bar, look at where the larger heavier stones drop out when it's in flood. Always try test pans across the gravels, you are looking for the gold line. Lead shot, fishing weights, pellets and Black specs of sand are good indicators that you are on the right track. Same with rusty old nails and horseshoes etc. If you see bedrock, look for tightly packed cracks full of thin disc shaped pebbles, scrape them out and then collect the sediment to pan it all. Last of all, plenty of sweets and jam sandwiches 🍰👍

That sounds interesting Jack and I can't say I have heard of that one. A river can meander and change it's direction as we all know and the the source of the gold could be from a vein that the river cuts through at which ever point it is at along it's journey to the sea

There's a lot of gold in the Dolgellua area and Alba mineral resources are really cracking on with mining AU out of the hills, the only trouble is, NRW are collaborating with them and putting signs up everywhere. Find your secret spot and get your self some of your own gold. It's amazing stuff to look at with your own eyes.
