I remember the really early pieces shown at Riverside in London, and Lisson gallery, which was then tiny with bare floorboards and a cat.. You could see all the marks and notations and workings out on the constituent parts and have a sense of the thought processes captured along a timeline. They were more rough and ready somehow and had the dirt of the everyday on them. As a body of work there is so much invention and variety in his structures and surfaces, you might say he has found his own extraordinary and unique Galapagos.
