Hi Balleka! If there is one constructive criticism I can come up with (for all your videos, not this one especially, I like them all!) it's that I would like to hear the thoughts of an experienced glider pilot. For example, on cross country glides, why do you choose to leave a ridge, why do you choose to leave a thermal during a cross country flight? These are the things I often wonder about when watching gliding videos, so your input would be great!

Rikard Stockstad Good question..... when you start gliding, the ambition is to stay airborne near home, anything giving a bit of lift is fine. If you wish to cover distance, you have to leave the thermal you are in when you feel you can find a better one ahead.... the big gamble is deciding how fast to fly to the next lift... too fast, and you lose valuable height, and hence time! Speed to fly depends on the strength of the NEXT thermal! Low down, you have to figure out how much height gets you somewhere better, which is why you have to 'top up' a bit of height on the good bits of ridge before crossing gaps. Local knowledge is very useful!Ridges allow you to fly without too much circling if they are going the right way, and can also 'pop' thermals at the top. By the way, Balleka, the thermal will often be strongest behind the ridge, especially near a bowl.....Thermal lift tends to 'cycle' so you pick the best time to leave and arrive at the next if you can! By the way, my experience is based on flying a Slingsby Dart, which was a 'hot ship' back in the 1960's...... and an ASH 25 which was the dogs in 1985. Starting from 1985, I have got to Silver C and 100k diploma, but I do spend an inordinate amount of time driving the winch to launch other better pilots!

Balleka Selfishly, though, I'm with Rikard. Could you consider interspersing your music with comments? Particularly for this Discus syndicate member in the southern hemisphere, where soaring has just somewhat diminished, just as yours is decreasing. Envy here; fly safely and enjoy your summer.
