the documentary makes a really bad job at explaining it but it's referring at the near-hypersonic meteor air to air missile which has an inescapable kill range that's double of any other air to air missile. The doc is basically a glorified ad for the F35. The language used for the plane also shows it's quite old as the pricetag ended up being way off (and it also turned out that it sacrificed too much for it's passive stealth giving it abyssmal munitions, flight characteristics and horrible reliability ) This is made obvious because it has conveniently left out the Rafale, a plane that utilizes the Spectra system which combines sensor fusion (what the F35 and F22) have and active stealth (on top of some passive stealth) allowing it to retain F22/35 levels of stealth while carrying 19 weapons on the outside and not sacrifice any flight characteristics. The rafale is also compatible with the exoset and meteor. Which makes it a far better weapon than either of the two American stealth planes at a lower pricetag.

The best engineering triumph would be the SR71. Still hold its records and was built before computers aided design. Phenominal!
@erichkorman7103 жыл бұрын
The SR-71 was obsolete before it was even deployed after the U2 was shot down at 70,000 feet. A fully armed, armoured 1968 Mig-25 hit Mach 3.2; you can take a ride on private ones. The defenceless, unarmed, unmanueverable SR-71 is nakedly vulnerable until at top speed and altitude. It has so little visibility it can be attacked from almost any angle. Not seeing what is coming is okay if you can't do anything about it. Put me in the Mig 25 instead; without drop tanks, missiles, mounts and machine guns it might pass the mere 124 mph difference in top speed
@collander77662 жыл бұрын
@@erichkorman710 except you couldn’t actually go Mach 3 in the MiG-25 for more than like 3 minutes without exploding, so they were always limited to lower speeds. It didn’t need to be armed or maneuverable (although it was more agile than the MiG-25) as it was a reconnaissance jet, so that’s kind of a moot point; comparing apples to oranges, obviously the SR-71 is going to be an inferior fighter jet- almost like it’s not one. As a strictly reconnaissance jet, there is no incentive to add weaponry which would hamper performance. As for defenses, it carried countermeasures, but it’s main defense was its speed which *at the time* kept it relatively out of reach from Soviet SAM systems, and even air-to-air missiles. If the YF-12 (SR-71 fighter variant) was fully developed, I’m sure it would’ve been a much better fighter jet than the MiG-25 ever was. Edit: apparently the engines redlined at Mach 2.8, which was advised against because the engine’s lifespan would be significantly reduced. Mach 3+ was only achieved once in a trial, causing irreparable damage to the engines in minutes. /:

No "stealth" aircraft is "invisible", just far harder to detect on UHF radar. That's an advantage, because only UHF radar can target it well enough to lock a missile on. But VHF radars still detect it, at range, well enough to vector an interceptor. So it comes down to numbers and aircraft and pilot performance, same as WW2. But stealth has disadvantages, too. It limits size and aerodynamic efficiency, increases drag, and the materials are heavier and less rigid. This means that the aircraft's performance, speed, acceleration, and turn and climb rate suffer. It also limits payload and range because weapons and fuel must be carried internally. Exotic and difficult-to-machine materials cut into replacement rates. Add in extreme complexity, as with the F-35, and you add in fragility and serviceability problems as well. Stealth is still useful. But it's not a magic bullet, and anybody who thinks so is only kidding themselves.

@puffin512 жыл бұрын
@@livestremgamess Read the title to this video: "Stealth Technology - Invisible and Deadly". That _is_ saying stealth technology makes aircraft invisible. "Stealth technology" does as I wrote - it greatly reduces UHF radar returns. That is all it does. Among its "other qualities" are that it adds weight, reduces rigidity and aerodynamic efficiency, and imposes severe constraints on payload while greatly increasing maintenance. Like every military technology whatsoever, stealth is a trade-off. It can be a very considerable advantage, but it has to be paid for, and like every other new forms of attack, stealth aircraft generate new forms of defense against them.

21:00 - what people fail to understand... "If you lower the radar frequency, you can see the aircraft." But the problem with this is the lower the radar frequency, the less resolution/accuracy of the return. To fire a missile at the jet requires extremely accurate tracking, and a higher frequency. So an enemy may "see" a jet but cannot do jack about it. Don't you think the people who design $100 million fighters didn't think of such things?

They are not able to track and range as well as radar does, but they take away the element of surprise and give an indication of location. They can guide the Russian aircraft to a position where they can attack our stealth fighters with infrared missiles, which can also see stealth aircraft. Sadly, the F-35 is slower than other fighters, and cannot escape once detected.
@einehrenmann6156 Жыл бұрын
sure, try those at a distance of a 100km with F-35s coming at you whilst supercruising (impossible) and you might live long enough to get in range of Heatseekers (IR missiles you speak of) if you don't get blown up by F35s who don't even need to use their own radars to find you and shoot you down.
@andrewheffel3565 Жыл бұрын
@@einehrenmann6156 I hope our F35 electronics are good enough to prevail over Russian and Chinese aircraft in actual combat. The Russians have aircraft with vastly superior flight performance to the F35, which flies like a brick with wings attached. Maybe our best bet in combat is a mix of F35's and US Gen 4 fighters like F16's and F18's, to combine the best of both. I would like it if we had combined the electronics of the F35 with the performance/maneuverability of the F22. That would have been an awesome combination. As it is, our superior logistics and tactics would probably decimate Russian air power, but China might be a different matter.
@einehrenmann6156 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewheffel3565 doesn't matter. No amount of flight performance is going to make up for the advantage of stealth. The Fact is that F35s can detect Enemies long before they can detect the F35. So before the Enemies even know the F35s are in the Air there will already be a missile on its way to kill them. The missile will only lock on seconds before it impacts so there is no way to evade that missile with the amount of energy it is carrying no matter how good your performance is becouse the Human inside is only going to take so many G's until he gets turned to goo. The main problem F35s have is that internal weapons bays have a limited capacity meaning that wave tactics could break trough the initial wave of missiles of the F35s and get within radar detection range (40 ish nautical miles). But that is being fixed with the "Sidekick" addition and future drones that fly together with F35s which will also be able to carry missiles. But even having a single F35 acting as an "invisible" sensor array has greatly improved combat capability of 4th gen aircraft. It seems to me like the Russians aren't a threat for the foreseeable future and the chinese still only employ air superiority fighters capable of stealth with lower numbers and lower quality than F35s. With NGAD and F/A-XX already in progress creating a 6th gen fighter whilst china and russia don't even have a real 5th gen (Stealth and Sensor Fusion) avaiable should be sufficient proof that the american airforce is stronger than ever.
@andrewheffel3565 Жыл бұрын
@@einehrenmann6156 I hope you are right, but I have my doubts, at least about the F35. The war in Ukraine shows how weak Russia really is. They would have little chance against the US in a conventional war. In Vietnam we left cannons off early F4 Phantoms because we thought air to air missiles were invincible. We soon found many situations where cannons were necessary, and hastily added them back. Truth is, we won't know how good the F35 is unless we go toe to toe with the Chinese, and I don't care to find out the hard way. War gets complicated. My suspicion is we would easily a conventional war with China too. We are good at projecting power at great distance, China seems focused mostly on coastal defense, no blue water navy. We could disable oil tankers headed to China while they were still far away, and they could do little to stop us. Without oil the Chinese would be doomed.

So what are you rumbling about? And there a video of Russian Su27 I believe requesting an open dog fight to the Americans, the French , the Brits, and German pilots present at a Paris air show all of them refused stating that it was impossible to fight a plane which behaves like an UFO. And if you know something about airplane yourself you should know that nowadays what is at stake is a good radar system , a long distance engagement missiles and how many targets can you engage simultaneously. So unless you have a solid arguments keep playing with toy plane until you can graduate to a remote control one.😁🤣

That's actually a very good sign. It means these extremely destructive subs have nothing better to do or nothing bigger to attack (and that's a GOOD thing) and they have the spare time to play with Lil-pirates....that would be fun. Not only that, it might send a message to other "would-be" pirates that they could have to deal with a super advanced submarine if they choose to continue their pirating, which will probably deter them from trying. Remember, sometimes a military action is intended to change behavior which is (often) more valuable than the specific action at the time. This is just my opinion pulled off the top of my head in the moment, I could be wrong, but it is an interesting comparison either way. Peace!

Somalian pirates are no different than guerrilla fighters elsewhere. A whole slew of countries have tried to wipe them out to no avail. They've sent soldiers, night vision goggles, bomber aircraft, artillery, sophisticated rifles, tanks, helicopters, you name it, only to realize they can't get all the sonofabitches. Ten to twenty years later, they're still there fighting the guerrillas. Somali pirates are no different. They know the submariners want to surface in San Diego so they can go attend a Donkey show in Tijuana. They'll go out there in cheap boats, knowing the pussy submarine captain won't fire. He's been told not to fire, only to observe. "Shit, I just accidentally blew up 8 Somali pirates! I better submerge before the war criminals court finds my ass and arrests me crossing the Mexican border!"

It's so interesting that they are showing something which should be hidden away from the public. It was once said, if the military is allowing the public, and the enemy to see what is being developed then that technology is about 50 years behind what really exists. Sure these toys are cool, and sometimes frightening but we are seeing technology that is obsolete.

I would have enjoyed seeing the B-2 Spirit flying while I was in the Air Force, but it wasn't active then and it sounds like a good aircraft and the new Zumwalt class destroyers sounds like a great ship too and the enemies have nothing to compare to it. The SR-71 Black Bird was the first of the stealth technology and I remember them from my time in service. They was well designed and I loved watching them take off and land. I remember the F-17 aircraft also and it was the first airplanes to go into Iraq with no losses. The F-35 and the F-22 are great fighter aircraft and the F-35 is one which was made for each branch of the services and the F-22 can do as much also even though a small number of them was built and only used by the U.S. Air Force. The B-2 Spirit is the newest and best bomber in the world and the new B-21 will be next to join the fleet and be used to keep the Air Force the best in the world.

Love how they try to hype up the Zumwalt when the platform is the single biggest design failure of the Navy to date. Billions over budget and years behind schedule (thats why the Navy cut their order from 24 down to 3). Rounds for the main guns that are so expensive ($800,000 per round) that they cant even fire them in training and just did their first "test fire" this past May. After the gun fiasco, they switched its mission statement from "Land Attack" to "Surface Strike" vehicle and spent over a Billion dollars for the retrofitting. Just a month after officially handing the ship over to the Navy, it broke down going through the Panama Canal and had to be towed to San Diego for repairs. Since then its broke down 2 more times and has had to be towed to a port. Who needs stealth when it just sits in port?

Wow, you've done your homework. That's one hard hitting anti-Military news surprise after another. I feel I should read more about this "scandal"! /s If those things were true, it would be the Media's duty to report it to the American people. Unfortunately it's only lightly seeded with truth. I'm a disabled vet of the U.S. Navy and I've been there and done that, so I might be able to shed some light for you. DOD had a contract with several contractors to build dozens of the new DDs. That contract was broken by Obama when he cut the U.S. Navy and other services to the bone (USN fared better than most services when it comes to number of lost lives due to that policy/fiscal shift). This is not a matter of opinion but of fact... so don't get all defensive if you vote democrat.. it's a non-political factual statement concerning the military. As a result of cuts, the new DD, in lesser numbers with a lesser budget, had to be finished with many cheap modifications to the original design. It went over the modified budget because "you can't build a lambo at Kia prices". One shining example is the gun system ammo. Of course, when you only order 100 rounds, it's going to be more expensive to make them than if you order 1,000,000 rounds.. I hope I don't have to explain why. The media had a hayday reporting that the cannon rounds cost 1mil per shot.. but that's only a half truth. As to them returning to port under other power, it was because the ship was in shakedown. When an abnormality in a very new high speed technology is found, no matter how small, that system is taken offline until it can be looked at. The engines, fortunately, were already made before Obama destroyed the program.. so they're in good shape. Since the ship has been released for combat it hasn't been towed, and I don't anticipate it will be unless it incurs battle damage. The good news is that Zumwalt will, in the future, be built to original design specs under more "defense minded" leadership. We'll then see the originally intended results from this amazing (and much needed) ship. This situation is similar to that of the F-35. Some twits *still* think it's a 'lemon'.. because the news media said it was so.. even though it now has a 20-1 air to air kill ratio, and better air to ground BDA than anything in the inventory, in most recent Red Flag exercises. They're also still reporting that it costs $400mil a bird haha. The media still hasn't retracted their misinformation on this amazing aircraft. I have an active duty son on the ground now, and I wouldn't want anything less than the F-35 responding to CAS for him.. and I can assure you that I'm an authority on the subject. I know there are political factions in our nation who don't agree with the importance of defense spending, but I can't fathom why they would lie to undermine defense progress, at the expense of the morale of the American People. We have the best Navy on the planet, by a very wide margin.. but you wouldn't think that by reading the seditious headlines. It's a shame. Think for yourselves people.. the media is laughing at you daily because you're such pliable *tools* for their agenda.

@@StrongHarm Hello and thank you for your service. Having spent the last 30+ years in the design/application/manufacturing/installation of various systems on CG, LPD, LHA, LCS, MCM, SSBN, and even NSC for the Coasties, i'm very familiar with the good, the bad, and the ugly and the reasons behind them, i dont need the media, i see it every day. This ship class specifically is/was and always will be an albatross because the Navy was forced to make too many drastic system/design changes in too short a time without adequate engineering support. The whole premise of this ship class was to be an experiment or stepping stone to future platforms. You have to find out what works and what doesnt, then refine those that do. When the captain of a ship asks you point blank "how fast "we" (as in the design group) are going to get rid of the current drive line components for something better", you know theres serious problems. As you stated, the motors themselves are good, but everything after that is where the problems lie. Thats just one system, theres others that are perhaps more important than that, which have serious issues, but those things are not released to the public for scrutiny. As a side note, there are already two new designs submitted for replacing the current MRG sets & line shaft bearings because they have failed and will continue to fail under the current design. The general public never hears about the vast majority of problems because it would cause too many people to get their panties in a bunch in todays whiny PC culture. Personally, i think the Navy should have went with modified Burkes which would have been much cheaper and easier to retro-fit or upgrade, but at the time, there was just too much push back at the top levels for something new and better. "We" made our concerns known many many times, but they were brushed aside like yesterdays news, but yet now its "our" problem to get it right. Sadly, its almost easier to name the systems that dont have issues, as it would be a much much shorter list. Peace brother!

We create gravity in a way and reduce it by nearly 90% in central plans field. Very complex but I'm sure pilots are still guinea pigs. Sad.
