That 93 run was the best ever, there was a video put out later that year recapping the playoff run called the passion returns great video. the day after this fight the toronto star had a close up picture of the big shiner on mcsorley's face on the front page. Gilmour carried that team on his back. 1993 will never be duplicated, it was awesome. after the season the toronto sun had a picture of the leafs with the caption, "thanks for the dream season" it stayed on my wall for 10 years.....

100 percent. Wendel was my all time favorite. One glance and if a teammate was in trouble he'd be there. 93 will always be the best team and emotions that captured all of Toronto in a way not yet seen since then. Let alone the robbery we all had of not having seen a Habs leafs final for the last time!

He stands up for his teammates regardless of who they are? The guy he stood up for just happened to be the most popular Leaf player in history. He was a very good player but God knows why most people fell for his fake "I'm small but I won't back down from anyone" bullshit. Sure you won't Dougie, as long as there was no real chance of you actually having to fight.

That's how you stand up for a team mate. Players like Clark make everyone on the bench bigger, stronger and better.
@pedddler Жыл бұрын
You have to be more specific about what standing up for a team mate means. For this particular event, getting into a fight in front of a passioante home crowd that loves you is one thing, but getting your behind handed to you by the opponent is a different thing which is the actuality of this fight. Sure Clark hit Marty in the face a couple of times, but look what happened after that as Marty literally turned Clark into a punching bag and won the fight decisively.
@merccadoosis8847 Жыл бұрын
Contrary to what the announcer said, Gilmour's head was not down at the blue line. McSorley charged him and landed a forearm/elbow smash to the jaw. Clark did well to stand up for his mate. Old school hockey at its best. I miss those days.

LloydChristmas777... Well Lloyd hard to argue about Domi because he was another one who was unbelievably tough and had a head made out of granite.. how come he never fought Dave Brown if he's so tough, he declined everytime.
@stevehardman46865 жыл бұрын
@@khav11 Wendel - 5'11, 190, 330 career goals. Dave Brown - 6'5, 225, 45 career goals. In no way, shape or form should Wendel have ever fought Brown except as a direct response to Brown's goon tactics. McSorley was a solid NHL regular on top of being a tough guy, Brown was never anything more than a goon(it's a living, much respect to him because it is not an easy job), should never have tried to fight with Clark, should have stuck with Semenko, Motor City Smitty, McGill, Terry Johnson, Brian Curran or John Kordic. It's like how you wouldn't want to have saw Bobby Clarke in a fight with Dave Semenko, tough as Bobby was, it is a size and talent mismatch. Look up who Clarke fought, it is 90% guys like Esposito, Sittler, Park, Gartner, and not guys like Dave Schultz or Basil McRae. Even Tiger Williams was not much bigger than Bobby and had over 500 points. So, ask yourself why Bobby Clarke wouldn't fight any goons if he was so tough before throwing stones

I remember this! It was probably one of the best playoff series in the NHL. Anyways, what most people don't know is Dougie Gilmour was hooking, poking, and slashing the Kings throughout that game and getting away with it, so Marty sent him alittle message to knock it off. That one hit by Marty really boosted the Kings confidence to win that series. No disrespect to Dougie, but he was known for being a "stinker" as well as a good player.
@mike196212 Жыл бұрын
And they were getting away with the same thing. I have a book about the great Leaf run of 1993(it also sheds light on the Kings and the league as it once was) and Gilmour openly admits he was often a dirty player. Rules of hockey: 1) You cut into the middle with your head down you will get cranked. 2) If someone cranks your best player, you must go and make him accountable for it. 3) If you just cranked the other team's best player you must expect to be made accountable and you will stand up and do so. Of course nowadays, the league has other ideas and you can't even look at an opposing player cross-eyed.
