Wendy and Lucy is one of the most depressing films I’ve ever seen, but in a good way. It makes me want to hug my dog after watching, Michelle Williams is also phenomenal.

I just worked out that the dog Lucy is the same dog that starred as Lucy in 'Old Joy'. Both films have a similar feel. Kelly Reichardt is a master film maker. Every film she has made has been excellent in it's own way. Her entire filmography is worth viewing, preferably in chronological order, to see her development and growth as an artist. Her latest film "First Cow" is my favourite film of 2021.

And promises to get back and get her when she's settled and can take care of her. Like all kelly reichardt films the ending is open ended. I personally don't think she'll see her dog again. Her future isn't certain at all.😢😢

15 years old Definitely one of the most downer viewings I’ve seen. Michelle Williams is phenomenal though playing a woman who is struggling every day being adrift. What surprises me is that the dog disappears for a large portion of this even though both names are in the title. Wendy goes from place to place in order to survive but being that she has no residence, income or background she ends up getting in trouble for it more often. The world can be very cruel to those who wish to seek solitary lives. Much of this is downright depressing keep in mind. Yet Williams proves she’s a very capable actress playing someone who has to fight the tough exteriors of reality.

....Someone told me about this movie while I was talking about Heath Ledger and how pure he was. I was kinda blown away when he told me Michelle Williams was his girl at the time........ That dosent surprise me at all...... now im jumping down that rabbit hole. :) i loved dawsons creek :P

The sheer amount of disregard for the welfare of one's fellow man was an outright shock to me. All it takes is just a few bad turns and this could be any of us. And yet no one seems to care... If you enjoyed this film and appreciated its message to humanity, find the TV movie No Place Like Home. You will not be disappointed. Shalom and namaste, friends.

It isn't that people don't care, there are too many issues of our own to worry about. What it really comes down to, you don't know who are the individuals that need help, and those who just want a hand out. Blame those people wasting their lives away. They are the ones who are hurting the truly needy. People are willing to give money to a person that hit a rough patch in their life. It says, panhandlers make around $75 a day. BUT!!! more than half of those people are addicts, doing it to themselves, feeding their addiction with that money. So, this leaves a lot of people assuming they're all addicts.

watched it once, since it was on a list of suggested movie for animal lovers...it depressed me for days! I have a dog and seeing Wendy having to deal with the loss of her dog, the dog being in her life the only being counting for her, was devastating. Really a sad sad movie

The stock boy calling the cops had me wanting to reach thru the screen and throttle him. If somebody is stealing an apple, chances are they could probably benefit from a helping hand not a fine they obviously cannot afford. What is wrong with people??

"Get Rich with MJ" (There might be a spoiler alert in this comment). It can depend. I would wonder who would recommend this film for "dog lovers." If it is a sad story, especially regarding the dog in the plot, then it does not matter if there is a dog in it.. I never saw the movie. I think I read that nothing really bad happens to the dog but she does become separated from her human and it is up in the air as to whether they will get back together.

@@sedna90377 Then it must be like that short-film on the Kookla Fran and Ollie show, "Clown" in which the dog did not die or get killed but was lost from his little-boy street-urchin owner, and by the end of the film the boy finally finds his dog but the dog now has a new owner, a blind man, and the boy knows he has to leave "Clown" with the new owner because the dog has to start a new life.

"Sam Holden" What is relatable , IMO, is that (from what I read) the movie depicts a young woman who needs to find work and needs to begin a new, more -successful productive happy life and her best friend is her dog and the lady has to travel far to find work and eventually find a place to live. The problem is that work that pays substantially enough is not easy to find and when you have little other than a car to live in and a few dollars in your pocket it is not going to be easy to get out of the margins of society. This being said, having at least a car to live in is actually a luxury within its own self and there are probably far more people who do not have a car to shelter themselves from the cold and to sleep in.
