Sometimes I feel that there may be some writers that may not go that deep while writing for films and then they read all those fan-made theories from people with especially active imaginations and when asked about the underlying truth behind a theory, they "reveal" that it had been planned all along and is in fact cannon. Everyone is then in awe of the little "nuances" and the person who actually came up with the theory, and the writer who took credit for that (would that fall under some form of plagiarism?), and the fans who bought into it are all happy.

My theory: Andy’s dad was young when Woody’s Roundup was popular, and he got a Woody doll, but when the show was cancelled due to the rise of the Lightyear movie, the company that made Woody’s Roundup stopped selling merchandise, including Woody dolls. I read that it was the grandfather's toy first. The grandfather is likely to have been a child during the launch of Sputnik. The second movie points out that the age of sci fi and space toys soared after that, and Woody's show and merchandise became less popular. The grandfather gave it to Andy's father, then Andy's father gave it to him. I also heard that the dad died from something else soon after Molly was born. The polio vaccine came out in the 50s. Andy and Molly grew up in the 90s. There was a vast improvement on the knowledge and handling of polio by then.

My Dad’s Ankles are so small and weak he has to have Boots 🥾 with a hard backing on them so his Ankles don’t give out on him. There is Post Polio Syndrome but this happens years later to not very many people as little as 15% of Polio Survivors get Post Polio Syndrome so it’s very Rare. There aren’t many people left who lived through the first Polio Pandemic, my Dad is 84 years old right now and just last June got Diagnosed with Dementia and Alzheimers so he can’t remember that he ever had Polio as a child anymore, it used to be all he ever talked about was how his own Mother had to hold him down while so called Doctors piled Wet Sandbags on top of my Dad as a child and Shocked him Repeatedly thinking they were helping my Dad but they were making things worse and mentally scaring my Dad for life, my Dad still has Nightmares about those Horrible Days of his Childhood but all I can do is get him his Heating Pad and Comfort him when he gets upset and cries late at night.
