@@EdwinSherwood idk about that, Wera’s tools typically have the best heat treatments and last the longest in tests from independent third parties. Ergonomics are a more personal choice because we don’t all use tools the same. Vessel is another brand that is ideal for certain lines of work, depending on how one uses their tools.

You must REALLY like to sort through things! I have a small bag (Veto TP-LC) of tools that I use to fix just about anything that doesn't need a real power tool - and it took me a couple of years to get exactly what I wanted to carry. I more or less stuck with Wera for the L-Keys and drivers and bits for the interchangeability and ratcheting and with Knipex for their various pliers and wrenches and the little Milwaukee 1/4" Fuel Surge impact driver - which is just a fancy electric drill/screwdriver ;-) Throw in some decent files and blades for the hand saw handle and I can cover 98% of any emergency. Of course I couldn't tear apart a motor or other jobs that you might do, but then you need real power tools for most of that kind of thing anyway ... Always enjoy your videos!

As a Wera user for the past 5 years, I would say laser tip with green/black handles for the garage toolbox and a set of the full steel shank yellow/black handled for a tool bag/junk drawer for general beating and banging projects around the house.

Exactly, this is my only issue with PB Swiss: they don't cover everything you need, even in categories they're heavily into like screwdrivers. They lack square and ECX drivers/bits. This is an advantage of Wera and others, they have much greater variety.

as for Allen keys, I like Wera's very much, but the sleeve on them is sometimes to thick to reach places. But the hex-plus shape is very nice. I ended up buying the PB-Swiss rainbow allenkeys, to complement the wera's for tight places. (the color is painted, not a sleeve)

The problem with the VDE Jokers is that they won't fit in tight spaces due to the guard and that's often where they are the most useful.

First time watching one of your videos, you certainly picked the right word "obsessed" for your channel. I do like predicting and buying tools in case I need them, but can't afford doing it to your extent. I tend to get prefer sticking with a manufacturer per class of tool rather than one tool from one manufacturer because it's the best for one thing, and another tool from a different manufacturer that's best for another thing ...

Like Matt I love the pursuit and have already passed the stage he's at in that pursuit of excitement in a product (hand tools). Unfortunately snap on came before wera, wiss, felo, pb and hazet in my journey and most recently vessel ball end drivers that I'm still processing. I can hardly contain my excitement to hear Mat might going to tick that snap on box. I'm sure I already know the outcome already but would love to hear how he arrives and explains his thoughts on the brand. Also I'll add pb Swiss as my personal favourite L keys but that journey is not yet complete.

@ObsessedGarage wow I should have proof read and given context. I'm thinking a couple bit holder screwdrivers with the collar just like what your thinking for your drawer. A bit driver and a ratcheting one are on the tool list to buy so if I had the extending one and a short one and a ratcheting or zyklop one then a set of bits I could avoid a drawer of screwdrivers

I’m glad someone else also thinks the combination screwdrivers suck… if you can’t put all your bits in it, what’s the point? Thanks for your effort on this matt, I truly do think there is a gap in the market as far as a universal kit for high quality screw drivers. Every other kit takes up 35 drawers and just isn’t practical. I just want every type of universal handle and one or two (different size) bit sets that is shared between all the handles. I think there are many people that would also see the value in this concept. Thanks Matt!

I know you think the ‘multi-tool’ style of screwdriver sucks - and I agree! I own the Wera version of these tools and I have relegated them to emergency kits for my bike and car - better than nothing but not optimal for everyday use. Having said that…a compromise if you need to save space with your VDE range is the Wiha (41235) which has the pop-up storage ‘magazine’ on top of the grip so the mechanism doesn’t have any rotational play that feels dodgy with the Wera tool. They also have the advantage of having slim bits, which is the feature of having the VDE insulation the same diameter as the driver bit. Not all VDE manufacturers utilise this and it’s good to have. I wouldn’t recommend this tool if you are an electrician and use them every day, but if you occasionally need the safety of a VDE tool, then one of these Wiha tools is worth having a look at. I changed out all my PB Swiss VDE tools for this Wiha item because I just didn't use VDE much and freed up a lot of space in my tool case. Otherwise, I’m a PB Swiss guy, drivers, Allen, Torx, L-wrench. Felo have a good range too.

Wera is good and the lazer tip patent is helpful and the chisel drivers are tough. Their Allen keys are the best. PB Swiss has the best flat screwdrivers. Having spent a nice GT Porsche on tools, having absolutely everything is nice, but what you really want is a set for a given vehicle/type. I have developed these for what I have (old defenders, modern Japanese, Porsche). I have a cart with 95% of what I need and that’s that. I think there is a market for this. Here are all the tools you need to work on a 2011 GT3RS (for example). Stahlwille, Hazet and some others have make specific sets (Porsche, VW, Audi, BMW), but not vehicle specific sets. They are also underinclusive because they are made for European shops where many tools are shop tools rather than individual techs.

Not a huge fan of the bit style screw drivers. If you do, the one you don’t like, the ones where the top opens with multiple bits is pretty good. I keep one in each car for space sake. Their T-handle ratchet is cheesy, but most ratchet T-handles are kinda junk. Their ratchets are way over priced for what they are. Yes, Wera makes a good Allen wrench set, in fact many are copying them. The shape they use do a very good job on partially stripped Allen heads. In fact, I usually use a cheaper, but good set of Bondhus and grab these or a set or Betas if I’m working on a partially stripped head or a head that is slightly more fragile (Titanium or Al). Sockets and ratchets, I’d go with Koken (out of the brands you have brought up). Btw, Snap On makes decent tools, and I only have a very few Snap on tools, so I am far far from a snap on fan boy, but they are just overpriced. If you think SnapOn sucks, it shows how little you know about tools, even a MAC fan boy would admit that. US stuff, SnapOn, MAC, SK are all really really good, it just gets to the point of what you prefer and want to pay. Euro stuff, yes, Wera is good for a few things, but not everything.
