For context First dunk he did and the dunk contest... The reason it looked cool but it's hard to recognize it first. Is that he spun in the opposite direction of a right-handed dunk That's something your mind doesn't realize that's what it is, but that's why it looks so different than a regular 360 windmill

Yes, jumping over a 7 ft 2 guy. Around him - ooover him. I mean he had Vince's junk just slide across his forehead and then got dunked on. When you have a chance, raise your hand. Put a mark where it is and really see how tall 7'2 is

I think it's because he's one of those jumpers who seem to have an ability to linger longer in the air. Jordan was like that too, but Carter was the best, he would just keep elevating past what you think is possible and glide. He also dunked with a much ferocity as anyone I've seen.

Tracy McGrady is definitely worth a watch. Hall of famer who unfortunately had much of his prime taken away by injuries. He was basically done by the age of 28, but cemented himself as one of the best scorers of his era. He lacked Vince's longevity, but it can be argued that he had a greater peak. He left Toronto to play closer to home and build his own legacy in Orlando. Also, T-Mac was one of Vince's opponents in that 2000 dunk contest. If you noticed, he helped him on one of his dunks.

The early 2000s era is probably my favorite era for NBA basketball. I think it was the purest form of the game. There was players using every play style imaginable and dominating. And the talent was insane. Kobe, Vince, T-Mac, Shaq, KG, Tim Duncan, Dirk, Pierce (my personal favorite), Kidd, Nash, Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Carmelo, AI, and a bunch more all in the league at the same time. I don't think there was ever a time with that many absolute legends in the league at once. Every single one of those guys is/will be hall of famers and it's absolutely deserved.

The dunk was named "The Dunk of Death" because that single moment of greatness by Vince Carter ended Frederic Weis' basketball career. As a Raptor fan who lives in the greater Toronto area, VC was a very divisive figure for a long time. The narrative in the media was that he mentally checked out and didn’t really try during his last season here. I think a lot of anger was also building up in that as the only Canadian team, it is hard to keep talented young American athletes here. Tracy McGrady had left 3 or 4 years before and I know it’s another sport, but the Blue Jays have the same issue. I think VC became the “poster boy” for people not liking Toronto, whether that was deserved or not. Fortunately time has healed old wounds and he is again seen as a beloved player by almost all Raptor fans.

Interviews by Vince Carter over the years and clips here and there from NBA players reveal the organization has a lot to do with injuries. One possible explanation for Carter's injuries is that the Raptors coaching and medical staff did not give Carter time to heal from each injury. If they did not rehab him properly and kept pushing him to play vs New Jersey Nets properly rehabilitating him. That could, in his defense, be an explanation for his resurgence in New Jersey.

The thing to remember about the three pointer he made against against the Clippers is that people didn't regularly take shots from that far away back then. That's why he has so much space. The defense wasn't ready for that shot.
@seanwilson5516

15:16 He may have gotten that space because the defenders had to account for Dell Curry( Steph's dad) who was a sharpshooter from the 3 point line. (That's him at 15:21).

Steph Curry's Dad (Dell) played for the Raptors in his final 3 seasons (1999-2002). So Steph (11-13) and his brother Seth (9-11) got to hang out after practices, and play against Vince and the other Raptors. Just think of that confidence boost one can get with that.

I think him and Tracy McGrady are the only other two wing players comparable to Kobe in that 2000's era. Kobe was the better overall player, T-Mac was the most potent scorer, Vinsanity was arguably the most exciting and explosive player in the league during that period. That poster on Alonzo Morning is still one of the damnest things I've ever seen, considering Zo is one of most built big men in league history and a well known force on defense.

Prime Tmac in his last couple years in Orlando he was neck and neck with Kobe. Kobe separated obviously but Tmac was so great, he just could never stay healthy. When he got to Houston it felt like him and Yao only stayed healthy like one season. In 09 they had a squad in Houston and both Yao and Tmac got injured. Ron Artest basically led them to game 7 against the Lakers in the semis. That was Tmacs chance to win a ring but his body was done.

I'm curious what you two would think about Hakeem Olajuwon. He's the all-time leader in blocked shots, and during the two years Jordan retired during the mid-'90s, he led the Houston Rockets to back-to-back NBA titles. It would be fun to see you react to a dominant defensive player after seeing these primarily offensive highlight reels

The craziest thing about Vince Carter is that he played for 22 yrs. longer than anyone in NBA history and was still making a 360 dunk look like child's play at 43. No one doubts the legitimacy of Vince's injuries. It's widely known that it was a smear campaign by the Raptors' ownership to protect themselves from the fall out of soured relationship. I mean, he did body slam his coach.

I was a kid just starting middle school when Vince was drafted and there was a buzz about him midway through the season. He became my favorite player growing up due to the creativity. I seen Toronto and New Jersey Vince Carter but the younger generations think of Vince as a journeyman…they don’t know the buzz Vince garnered in his prime. Vince was a unique dunker because he could palm the ball, had long arms, and could dunk from many angles. People talk of Ant Edwards and current day starts but they couldn’t score like a prime Vince Carter. VC was a legit superstar player….no exaggeration. A prime Vince would tear the League up today.

HALF MAN!!! HALF AMAZING!!!!!! AIR CANADA!!!!! He played with his cousin on the Toronto Raptors as well, Tracy McGrady, who was a phenom as well. A slight step below Vince, but he was a high flyer as well.... Vince could dunk amazingly, but his 3 pt shot kept him in the league for so long. He just retired in 2020. -He was injured towards the end of his time in Toronto. You have to remember, not all training staffs across the league is equal. He got better care in Jersey and I'm sure he found others outside of the organization to work with for his after care.

He should have been nicknamed Wince Carter because every time he plays people get that face like they just stubbed their toe in amazement.

Vince could do the most stylish dunks in-game because he was so automatic and instinctive in the air it never felt like an unnecessary risk. You had to just let him attack the way he felt at the moment

including the dunk contest that dunk in the olympics was the best dunk in history... there have been some other greats for sure but good luck topping that one.

that's Tim Duncan getting dunked on @ 4:54 seconds. I'm a Spurs fan, I know that hall of fame, yet vertically challenged, leaping ability anywhere. 😂

I remember for years as a kid disliking Tmac because he went to the Orlando Magic's and had my cousins jersey number. He eventually became one of my favorites though.

if you are confused about the buzzer beater on San Antonio, the scorekeepers accidentally gave the spurs the point, making it look like a 5 point spurs win, when it was really a Dallas 1 point win.

On sportsnation and a few other shows that did all time dunk competitions. The olympic dunk is given #1 and everyone else just gets to play for spots 2-50.

Seeing all VCs never before seen athletic displays throughout his career you wonder how all of this never translated to greater individual honors and championships bc he's more than capable to achieved all of that. No doubt Vince Carter was the biggest underachiever in league history. And it breaks your heart.

It’s not hard to say that the National Canadian basketball team is as good as it is because of Vince Carter. It’s not a coincidence their plethora of young studs are 25 and younger, coming song right when VC was making ball in Toronto hype.
