They broke Mexican law by driving out of the safe zone without the proper documentation. They were taking their chances. America has certain laws also. When you go to any other country they are likely to have laws you need to learn about. It just sucks but I was surprised experienced travelers would mess around with not getting the proper papers. That’s an amateur mistake. The whole situation is really sad and scary. But I wouldn’t blame the whole country. My ex-husband was from Poland and we went there years ago, he was bribing everybody. So much corruption over there. You didn’t want to get on the wrong side of those crooked cops.

I’m so curious why they required hardhats and boots in a government building?? So weird. Man I’m really sorry you ever drove out of that safe zone! When we move into our trailer, I will be pretty nervous about driving it to Mexico. And I think I would stick to the West Coast. Or maybe we would take a pick up truck and leave the trailer with a friend.

Give them a ticket to pay, heck make them show up for court…don’t just take their vehicle and wipe your hands of it!! What kind of sense does it make to make them get hard hats and boots to go in a government building? Hoops….that’s what it is…more hoops to make them jump through!! It’s ridiculous and the fact that Mexico relies so heavily on tourism this kind of treatment is ludicrous! It definitely doesn’t make me want to visit Mexico! Know why? Because I’m a pretty intelligent person but I am human and I do make mistakes but in Mexico that’s inexcusable…?! No, let’s not get numb enough to all the corruption that we think it’s no big deal to take someone’s vehicle, which is essentially their livelihood as well!! If you've been following, you'd know they are left with a cliffhanger themselves. This trip was NOT to pick up the van. They are not expecting the van for possibly months, but they only had so much time to provide this documentation that they flew to Mexico just for nothing more than to turn over the documents as advised by their attorney. Now they return home and wait for a phone call for the next step. There may be more i's needing dotted, and more t needing crossed. In short, now they go back home and hurry up and wait for their documentation to be processed and verified by the Beans that Be. They left us right where they are at in the process. EVERYONE including them is hanging on the cliff.

@@TenajTino Husband stationed at Fort Bliss, El Paso. Juarez was our go to place for a fun night out, good food, cheap drinks and dancing. I went there weekly by myself to get groceries and other things, no fear, never afraid. We always took people visiting from out of state to Juarez for a fun day of eating and shopping. It was a neat town back then. Sad how bad things have gotten.

Now that I am aware that your van was not in your name, as it still has a lien from the lender entity, I can tell you that there is no way you would receive a temporary import document unless you had a letter from the loan company, stating that they authorized you to take the van on a trip to Mexico for X number of days/weeks/months. That or a clear title proving you owned the van outright.

If the vehicle you intend to drive into Mexico is not registered in yours or your spouse’s name, you will also need the following documentation to accompany your application: Rented vehicles: If a rental car company allows you to drive one its vehicles into Mexico, you will need a notarized letter of permission from the rental car company. Leased vehicles: If the vehicle under lease, you will need to show the lease contract and a notarized letter of permission from the leasing company. Financed vehicles: If the vehicle is under a finance arrangement, you will need to show the credit contract and notarized letter of permission from the finance company giving permission for the car to be driven to Mexico. Company car: If the vehicle is owned by a company (a company you own or a company you work for) you will need a notarized letter of permission (on headed paper) confirming the employment relationship and authorizing the employee to drive the vehicle into Mexico. This could be the greatest shakedown in history. Ive lived here 10 years and never give them penny (peso). During covid lockdown the military was keeping people who live a little out of town from going in and shopping. I just wonder if there is anything your bank can do now that you mention you still owe on it. Your bank may be familiar with this process. I just wonder if there is something that your bank can file to get the back van FOR YOU, like a repossesion order or whatever it would take. I know here in the states as a tow operator, when a vehicle that money is owed on, if the RO (Registered Owner) doesn't claim the vehicle, then the bank has the legal right to pick this vehicle up from impound since it's their collateral. Many times what happens too, when a vehicle is up for repo and it's been hidden out and the bank has been looking for it for some time. We notify the leinholder the same time we notify the RO. Sometimes the bank will call us immediately and tell us DO NOT RELEASE to RO, it's up for Repo. Provided they fax us a Repo order, or the Repo tow company calls us, now being the tow community is pretty much a big brotherhood, who do you think wins in this situation? Yes, we'll release to the Repo tow company and NOT the RO. We will allow the RO to recover their personal property from the vehicle, but not release the vehicle. So just suggesting, maybe your bank can file something, that in the event YOU DO NOT GET IT, then they Bank gets it. This could be where the Beans just throw in the towel and now know they'll not be able to auction it off, so may as well just let you have it back. Maybe? Not sure. Never dealt with an International Repo. May be worth a phone call to your bank to see if they can help. They might just tell you, NO, If Mexico keeps the Van, then we write it off, or worse, get a judgement against you for the deficiency still owed on the loan. @@TenajTino No No, I'm not saying let the bank repo the van. I'm saying, to see if the bank can help you get it back. Like can they do an international repo order and would the beans give it up. Trust me, the bank don't want that van. Banks always want paid, that's all they want. But they also know if you don't have the van, you're less likely to pay for it, so I bet IF THEY CAN, I don't know the laws about international and why I"m suggesting a phone to see if they are familiar with anything that can help and what it would be, but if they can help you recover it from the beans, I'll assure they would. They might just say, nothing we can do. I don't know, just worth a try. I bet you're not the first person this has happened to.
