Christmas time is a wonderful time to visit Rothenburg. Our family was the only tourist family there. Our hotel was one of the few hotels open. We had roast goose for our Christmas dinner. The most amazing Christmas our family has ever had.

Zur Hoell seemed like a tourist trap. We had reservations for 6pm but they made us sit and wait at a table until 6:40pm and did not offer us drinks. 2 daily special meals and 3 small 0.3L beers was 68 Euro. Most places dinner and drinks is around 35 euro. They also charge you for water and bread which is crazy. Servers were very rude, would not recommend.

Great video! My husband and I hope to go to Germany next year and Rothenburg is definitely on the itinerary. I lived in Germany for a couple of years as a kid and fell in love with castles, and that's why I ended up getting a PhD in medieval history (although not German medieval history). Can't wait to go back! We're thinking about going in December so we'd be able to see all the Christmas markets.

Hallöchen Als Deutscher sehe ich ihr Reisevorhaben und dem damit verbundenen Interesse als Kompliment an mein Land. Herzlichen Dank. Dennoch fühle ich mich aufgrund der vielen Videos über Rothenburg ob der Tauber veranlasst auch hier zu erwähnen, dass Deutschland nicht aus Rothenburg ob der Tauber besteht. Es ist schon echt erstaunlich, wie viele Menschen dorthin fahren um mittelalterliche Architektur zu erleben. Das finde ich sehr schade. Besonders gegenüber Städten die ähnliches zu bieten haben. Vielleicht haben sie ja Lust sich im Rahmen ihres Besuchs hier in Deutschland etwas näher damit auseinander zu setzen. Es gibt in Deutschland Bundesländer und in ihnen Landkreise. Ein Landkreis ist beispielsweise der Burgenlandkreis. Dieser heißt aus gutem Grund so. Dort gibt es viele Burgen. Es gibt auch eine Stadt die Quetlinburg heißt. Sie gehört zum Weltkulturerbe und bietet Deutschland weit die meisten Fachwerkhäuser mittelalterlichem Ursprungs. In dessen Umgebung sind diverse Filme auch Hollywood Filme gedreht worden. Aber auch Wernigerode sollte mit seiner Stadt und dem Schloss und der "Harzer Schmalspurbahn" durchaus Rothenburg die Show stehlen. Wie gesagt als Interessent für Mittelalter lohnt es sich auch über das eine "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" hinaus zu sehen. Ein Beispiel zum Schluss. Die Burg " Regensburg" in Blankenburg. Es gibt nichts ähnliches. Eine ganze Burg in den Fels geschlagen.

@@WereintheRockies Unfortunately not, but I love to travel. Since 2000 most of my travels have been to the US though with a few visits to England and Germany and other European countries. Brussels is the exception that I visit at least once a year for work.

I do have a question: Cheryl mentioned a memorial to Jews who were killed. Was this in the 20th c. or in the Middle Ages?

Sorry Ich bin Deutscher und lebe in diesem Land auch. Es tut mir sehr leid und bitte auch nicht falsch verstehen. Aber Deutschland besteht aus mehr als nur Rothenburg ob der Tauber oder München, Köln und Hamburg. Wenn man meint das diese Orte Deutschland ausmachen ist das Bild falsch. Es gibt auch mehr als nur den Schwarzwald. Beispiele: Das was Deutschland ausmacht sind nicht nur die Metropolen sondern das viele drumherum. Es ist die Lüneburger Heide, Elbsandsteingebirge, der Harz, der Thüringer Wald, schwäbische Alb, Bayern mit seinen ländlichen Gegenden. Es gibt Goslar, Quedlinburg als Weltkulturerbe und zum Beispiel Wernigerode. Auch andere Orte wie Dresden, Eisenach haben historische Hintergründe und sich optisch nicht hinter Rothenburg ob der Tauber verstecken. Wo jeder hinfährt ist natürlich jedem selbst überlassen. Jedoch sollte man seinen Eindruck den man dabei bekommt nicht auf das ganze Land übertragen. Auch zu einem Schloss Neuschwanstein gibt es in Deutschland genug ebenbürtige Konkurrenten in Sachen sehenswert. LG Mario
