I disagree, I think his characters (Marc and Steven both) needed almost all the time they were given, as the story was centered around their relationship and learning to work together as members of a system and as a superhero. As much as I love Layla, cutting her is the only way I can see a shorter run time working out because she added a lot of complexity to a story that was already hard for many people who didn't have a previous understanding of dissociative identity disorder to understand, while still maintaining the original vision with Harrow and his cult as the antagonist. I could see it having worked by cutting Layla from the beginning, introducing Jake Lockley halfway through the season and giving him a minor, introductory role, and having Layla take Jake's place as the surprise reveal in the credits scene of the last episode. The story would have been able to stay the same, but the focus could have been a little more on just establishing the core elements of D.I.D. and being a superhero before introducing more complicated relationships.

This special's homage to a retro movie is one of the reasons why this show immediately hooked me. I think one of my favorite scenes would be the last scene and the little effect of lighting they added at the end. I also hoped it was longer but there is something to be said about leaving the audience wanting more...and thats exactly what this did and I think its also part of why so many people are talking about it.

It actually was intended to be in color, then Giacchino said "hey this would be really cool if it were in black and white" ...I am not joking.

@memeguider5559 Жыл бұрын
i'm pretty sure it was giacchino always wanted it to be black and white, and shot it that way, and it took until the third cut of the special to convince fiege to let it be black and white.
@loganbigmo
@loganbigmo Жыл бұрын
Yeah, but that was before filming began. Giacchino said in an interview that they decided on black & white before filming, shot scenes in black & white and then showed it to Feige, who approved on it. After which they could film the rest that way. It's not like they filmed in color & made it black and white in post

I really love Werewolf by Night, but I dissagree that Moon Knight should be an hour or 2 movie. The MK tv series introduce to the viewer a differnet take on the comic moon knight. But the character is still there, and the show have only 3 human characters (Marc/Steven-Layla-Arthur) don't have joke like at all, the super cgi suit is kept mostly at the end. It a charater study show and it was perfect imo . And this might sound like a fan boy but I think phase 4 had a lots new experiment and lay the ground work for 5 and 6
@Clay3613
@Clay3613 Жыл бұрын
Exactly, Mark/Steven/Jake are three personalities within one character... No way to fit that into 2 hours.
@Durmomo0

If anything Moon Knight needed more episodes. The biggest issue with it is that it got rushed towards the end. They should at least have another season set in new york with him established fighting street level crime or supernatural stuff on a small scale.

Moonknight and WandaVision and my two favorite Phase 4 entries, so the idea of turning Moonknight into just an hour would KILL me. I get your reasoning, but I think I just appreciated the long development of her character(s).
@Durmomo0
@Durmomo0 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely the worst thing they could have done for MK is make it a short special. There was just so much to work with with the mystery and the character etc. Like going forward I could see a moonknight special working but the first season should have been a bit longer if anything.
@CallMeFi
@CallMeFi Жыл бұрын
I mean the story of the TV show wouldn't translate to the special format but then again if that was the idea to begin with the whole story would be massively different. I think it could have been a success, but then again I felt that Moon Knight really tried to do way too much and that the plot got away from the writers so you know

The one-hour special worked really well for this because we could essentially hop into the story and characters using tropes as shorthand, and then the story gave unique character moments to help flesh out the particular type of tropes we were working with. I really enjoyed this, but I think a lot of their other projects would have more difficulty with this unless the scriptwriting and direction was exceptionally tight. But man, it sure was nice to have this as a beautiful, fun, stylish, one-and-done

I'm half a year late to the party but I still want to say this is my favorite thing from Phase 4 and one of my favorite entries to the MCU ever, I specially loved the use of physical effects and I wish they went all the way with it, I still hope they continue this trend and slowly abandon their plans to create the 'next infinity saga' or whatever, my need for super connected movies died with Tony Stark.
