He’s indecisive, selfless as Spiderman, selfish as peter, charismatic, careful, careless, and humble, and both Tobey and Tom miss out on some of these. 3:25 Making a joke out of a god who was serious, and then saw thousands of his people, and Jane die is not cool. I don’t like it. People don’t resonate with Captain America, or Iron man, because they are so different, being either patriotic or a billionaire playboy, but I don’t see many people resonating with them because not many people are so actively patriotic or billionaire playboys. You don’t have to make a character more clumsy or funny to make them resonate with audiences. 4:30 I disagree, I think anyone’s parents would have a profound impact on a child. (And yes I’m referring to even Spiderman, as anyone, because he is. That’s the point of the character, he’s just a kid going through the endless hellscape that is life, and as you mentioned with Thor, you want the less fortunate audience to resonate with the character because everyone has struggles. This also helps setup the connection with Kurtis Conners because Peter now has a REASON to connect with the main antagonist of the film. 6:00 I see this point a lot, but I don’t actually know how this matters. In the comics (where I’m from) Peter is quite like this, in that he isn’t too shy, but he has Harry and MJ as friends and yeah he’s a nerd, but that isn’t his whole persona. He’s funny and makes jokes, and is charismatic completely unlike Tobey’s version. I’m ignoring the skateboard. Andrew’s performance as Peter delves into his emotions, not his nerdiness. 7:00 It’s fine. It shows that Flash is a bully to every small kid, not just Peter, and it introduces the fact that Peter wants to help anyone and everyone. (Same with the paint scene). 7:15 Yeah you’re right, it is messed up I thought that too and odd how he just roams the facility randomly. (They really should check for IDs it’s a high tech facility for god sake). 7:50 I think it’s cool. It shows the awareness that Peter now has after the spider bite. It’s fast, like he is, and loud like he hears things. It’s chaotic and that’s how he feels. He doesn’t know what’s happening, and the quick paced edits make us feel like it too. 9:00 too cute is not a problem in my book. It shows the chemistry between these 2, and it’s why they’re the perfect Spiderman couple. Kirsten’s MJ is incredibly toxic and cheats on literally every person she’s been with. Zendaya’s MJ is a literal stalker and has no chemistry with Peter before Far From Home. Emma stone is the perfect love interest and that’s ok. 10:00 Again, not a problem. He’s angry, he knows it, he doesn’t want to go home, I can believe he went to the store to get something to calm him down. Also, the cashier is literally being stolen from, he’s gonna ask anyone he can to get his money. Do people not yell “Somebody stop him he’s a thief” in stores or markets anymore? How is this an issue with the film. It’s messy from the script but not a problem because Sam Ramey’s script is the DEFINITION OF MESSY. 12:00 That’s EXACTLY the point. He’s still angry for losing Ben, and it being partially his fault because he didn’t help the cashier. The movie actually antagonizes him for it later at the dinner with Gwen where he realizes that chasing car thieves isn’t what he should’ve used his powers for. And I mean honestly, if I suddenly had superpowers that I didn’t know how to deal with, and my uncle was just killed I would hide my face until I killed that murderer too. 12:50 As a comic fan, you have no idea how much you’ve pissed me off. This suit is gorgeous. It’s the classic red and blue, but in the dark when it reflects the light off the spandex it gives the suit its texture. Texture that makes the Tom suit doesn’t have, (because it’s not even a real suit) and that Tobey’s suit makes look uncomfortable. I mean his suit literally extrudes the lines past the texture of the fabric to make it look like holding a glass of water let alone climbing up a building would feel like that surface is uneven. The TASM 2 suit in the opening scene flutters as he’s swinging giving it a real feeling. 13:00 Tom doesn’t do that in many scenes, and in TASM 2 you literally see him doing that in the electro introduction to save those people. The angle of the arm shouldn’t matter because in this version of Spiderman, his webshooters work by pressing a buttton on his wrist. He could just be really fast and you don’t see it. There’s no slow mo in this scene but in every other one he does do the hand thing. 13:20 Again he’s MEANT to be a villain cause he seeks revenge still. Also the small knives thing really is funny imo. 15:00 it’s an origin story, being late into the film to figure out being a superhero is literally the entire genre. Captain Americas origin took way longer. 16:00 he’s horribly injured of course he left behind his camera. I’m not gonna be at the edge of dying and remember “I forgot my glasses”.. 16:40 He gained superhuman strength, speed, and regeneration, and lost his critical thinking skills. As a doctor, he did exactly what he thought he should do, which is try and better everyone’s lives. It seems absurd at first but it’s not that crazy. 17:00 that’s his dichotomy. He’s torn between his selflessness as Spiderman, and selfishness as Peter. He doesn’t want to hurt Gwen, but he also wants to honor her dad. 18:00 I agree that the plane nonsense is worthless remove it, and the “Peter is the chosen one” is also terrible. Spiderman could’ve been ANYONE. 19:30 literally the only thing they changed about the suits is the back spider and the yellow eyes… and you were making fun of the first suit. 20:10 You make a good point about the jokes but I really liked that part cause it was hella funny. I interpret the train scene from Spider-Man 2 as no matter how much life throws in our faces, even if we want to give up, somebody's world dies. Him nearly falling off that train yet the citizens catch him can be seen as all though people hate us, we are loved by so many others. Spider-Man provides the reader/watcher a sense of comfort, relatability, inspiration, and courage, not to forget Responsiblity. That's why he's truly, The Amazing Spider-Man.

I used to be on board w this vid. I don’t think these movies I good in terms of writing. However, Andrew Garfield is without a doubt the most comic accurate Spider-Man. Also, I used to hate his reason for becoming Spider-Man but than I realized that the whole first movie is an extended origin of the chracter. In the tobey trilogy, Spider-Man reaches his full form within the first hour, the mcu trilogy does not even bother to go over his origin. This movie dedicates its whole run time to Peter becoming Spider-Man. Peter dawning a mask catch his uncles’s killer and absolve himself of the responsibility of his death is something that would be right at home in the Stan and ditko run. It is not until Peter is confronted by captain Stacy at the dinner table that he realizes that he is not doing what he should be. Even then, he tries to dodge the responsibility of his actions. It’s only until the end of the dinner where he realizes his role as a hero. It is not until the fight at the bridge where he puts this new philosophy into effect. Where he officially says he is Spider-Man. It’s something that is just perfect. Shame the writing in the rest of the films was not the best.

I get what they were trying to do in this movie. In the original, Light is like a robot. He has no feelings, wants or characteristics of a teenager. In the movie, they made him more of a typical teen. He treats Mia like an annoyance (in the OG)...not a potential mate. But a teen boy would not act like that. So I get it...but they failed at it.
