One thing you often miss when you listen to Herzog's voice-overs is the twinkle in his eye. And how could he bear Kinski without humor? That and he did do a bit on the Simpsons and American Dad that was complete self-send up.

For me he comes joint first with Fritz Lang in the history of German cinema. He is second to no one.

most of herzog's films are littered with gentle, compassionate humor. he seems to really adore humankind and existence, including our myriad foibles.

Well Eddie Murphy must have done something good for him to use him as a standard or benchmark.

"Zere iz order here, but it'z an overvhelming sense of chaos, and it'z an overvhelming sense of fornication. It'z not zat I hate ze jungle. I love it. (angry face) I love it VERY much!" Sure there's humour in Werner's films, but to me, the above quote from Burden of Dreams shows that he's at his funniest when he's NOT trying to be funny at all. As are we all.

My friends and I DEFINITELY laughed all through his "Bad Lieutenant" and people were giving us dirty looks the whole time! To be honest, we thought we were laughing AT the movie (we thought it was terrible!). But now I see that was the aim all along! :P

Okay the title is misleading but its pretty clear Werner doesnt pretend like he’s ‘funnier than’ Eddie, he just notices that some people do get his sense of humour and seem to laugh watching his films more than ppl do watching Eddie Murphy

That's because Eddie Murphy hasn't been funny in 30 years. And once you start playing multiple characters in your own films, you've jumped the shark. Happened to him, happened to Mike Myers, and Tyler Perry jumped the shark early on.

Tyler Perry was literally never funny though in his defense.

When it is done well, it can be funny. Peter Sellers was great in all three parts of Dr Strangelove.

@@KilloreTroute Also Alec Guinness in "Kind Hearts and Coronets", although the humour was more in the overall film than any one performance.

I seen many movies of this great director .. it's a treasure of human experiences .. yet his movie about India and Buddhism was abjectly mired in exoticism and orientalism .. His best film for me is the one with an ALL STAR DWARF CAST - Even the Dwarfs Started Small 1970.

Germans have a weird sense of humor because they grew up with the tales of Grimm Brothers

In 2009, when Bad Lieutenant came out, the Movie was obviously funnier than the Murphy of that Time. But thats not a Challenge anymore. Sad to say.

Why ruin your great clips with super lame titles? Clearly, there is no mention of Eddy Murphey.
