Jonas Kaufmann has said it himself--He finally stopped listening to coaches who were pulling him in all directions till he almost lost his voice and now follows what his heart and throat (thanks to1 favorite baritone teacher) feel is the correct technique. To me the man has a gorgeous voice and can sing practically anything operatic. And no amount of supercilious trolling is going to change the fact that Jonas' legacy is firmly established for all to see and hear. Like Maria Callas, he doesn't claim perfection, but the number of fans he can count on indicates that his detractors will vanish, nameless, into the wind, while the singer lives on triumphantly.

Kaufmann has a very beautiful voice, and this Werther is especially beautiful. There is no perfection in humanity, that is a fact. This does not mean that he is best suited to certain roles than others. His voice is changing, it is easy to compare some arias from longer than five years ago with the ones he sings today. It happens to all opera singers. Popularity is not a sign of excellence, but in this case, Kaufmann is popular and very good indeed.

I think Italian tenor Giuseppe Sabbatini was a marvelous Werther in his day. There is a live video of him singing this aria on you tube.

Kaufmann is by far the most magnificent tenor I have heard. He should be the standard by which the rest of tenors are judged. I would go anywhere across the ocean to hear him live, and intend to.

quelle émotion au contraire .comme la désespérance de WERTHER est magnifiquement communiquée.beaucoup de puissance sans aucune violence contrairement à certains ténors qui invectivent le soufle du printemps.quand au timbre barytonnant de sa voix ce n'est pas un problème.Massenet avait prévu que Werther pourrait être chanté par u n baryton.tout simplement magnifique.

Who is these crazy Mario Pietta, it cannot be serious, Jonas Kaufmann is the most perfekt Werther, it's like this opera specially has composed for him, dear Mario listen tho his concert, where he starts with "Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön., than he sings Lohengrin and Tristan and ends with "Freunde das leben ist lebenswert", call me one tenor who can this and all very good.

Le Romantisme absolu = servi par le ténor qu'il fallait, le meilleur dans ce rôle actuellement. Sensibilité retenue, profonde, déchirée, puis paroxystique sans les débordements ridicules qu'on peut trouver sur scène par-ci par-là..Un chanteur classique intelligent qui a comprend son rôle (il est moins brillantissime dans les rôles italiens,puisqu'il faut dire vrai,mais qu'Est-ce que ça peut faire?)
