You're right, people don't seem to notice these things till it's too late. I remember my first seminar of my first year doing law in uni: the prof. confidently asserted that some democratic rules were inviolable, like the executive, judiciary and legislative being separate. I pointed out that Blair appointed Lord Goldsmith to all three, him being a lord, a judge and chancellor on the privy council. He didn't want to hear it at first and tried to explain why he wasn't, but then conceded. These risky appointments are always to achieve something dodgy, like invading another country or privatising the NHS on the sly, and they never end well. Don't be naiive just because Labour aren't the Tories.

Milburn is essentially a private healthcare lobbyist, has financial interests in private healthcare and conitnues to advocate for a return to disasterous PFI schemes. There's a clear conflict of interest and giving him access to confidential documents was a clear snd significant breach. The fact that Streeting can point to the Tories' dire history and go "ner, ner, ner, ner ner" doesn't excuse this. One would have hoped that a government promising change might be able to rise above the pathetically childish and cronyistic behaviour we've become used to, but there's little evidence they represent anything more than a slightly less noxious flavour of the same old shit.

The Labour party produced a report 7 years ago that showed that 4000 pensioners would die that winter if the heating allowance was taken away when the Tories suggested it. What has changed to make that not true now that energy prices have rocketed too? I did not vote Labour for this shite.
