He came from the Rams Organization, and when they got him he was already ill. Then he got worse, and Boston Sports talk radio was calling him a bum and lazy. He surprised everybody when he finally snapped out of it. He took up roster space, big mystery.

I remember just getting into football and being a short white guy that was primarily a RB because of me being really short yet being quick and being able to run routes always being called Danny Woodhead/Christian McCaffrey but mostly remembering my dad (which is an giants fan) saying hate to say it but you play like Wes Welker, at the time I never really knew bout him but seeing highlights really inspired me to keep playing, such a great reciever and example that you dont need to be the tallest or fastest to play good. He really lead on for players like Kupp and Renfrow now

Welker makes a strong case for the HoF. Average hall of fame WR resume is 748 rec, 11,532 yards, 90 TDs, 2 all pros and 6 pro bowls in 189 games.. Welker has 903 rec, 9,924 yards, 99 TDs, 2 all pros and 5 pro bowls in only 102 games.. the key thing to note here is the difference in games.. if you factor in the stats per game Welker’s stats are astronomical compared to the avg HoF WR.. but above all a HoF’er is really judged off the impact they made on the game and there is no other player who made as big of an impact on the slot receiver position as Welker.. that’s a HoF career by definition..

Welk was a bonafide stud during his prime, dude pretty much revolutionized the position for modern day slot receivers. 5x pro bowl (should be at least 6x), 4x all pro, led the league in receptions in 3 separate seasons. If he won a Super Bowl during his career he'd probably already be in the HOF, but he still deserves to be in Canton without the ring.

I disagree. Those rules didnt really take effect until 2011. 2004-2010 was still old school NFL. Theres a reason why there was only one 4000 yard passer in 2005, why Manning won MVP with "only" 27 td passes in 2008 and why he also won an MVP with 16 ints in 2009. It was still wayy harder to pass back then..2011 was when it really showed the changes. If the 2004 rule changes were so immediately detrimental, then why were physical corners like Revis, Bailey, Barber etc so effective after those rules??

@@ceebee312Cris Carter better than both. Dude had a 73% catch rate, probably the best hands and red zone wide receiver I’ve ever seen. He had that crack problem from college through beginning several years of his pro career which stunted his overall stats and played with a revolving door of terrible or over the hill QBs but still was pretty amazing. His best 2 years were with old man 38-39 year old Warren moon, too bad they couldn’t play more together. Larry is an all time great but him and Wes also played in an era that favored the passing game. In the 2000’s the rules changed significantly and everyone’s numbers jumped across the entire nfl, QBs and wideouts alike. When Carson Palmer retired he was just outside the top 10 in yards, completions, and tds for QBs, which is all that needs to be said. He was decent, but nowhere close to that good.
