On Venice Beach you hit a rip current which is why they have signs saying "no swimming" - if you find yourself in one you let the current take you out which shouldn't be too far and then you swim parallel to shore and then swim directly back to the beach.

you should head to that particular fish market during the big eye tuna season, you'll see lots of the heads there, it's a sight to see. I agree with the sashimi, wasn't the best quality, but i was able to try fresh bombay duck.....something really different.

At the end of this video (10 minute mark), you can see a sea mural in the background that looks to be in the style of Wyland. (I'm a huge Wyland fan, as I am of your videos. :-) ) Can you help point to an image with that full mural? I would love to see it. There are two Wyland murals listed as being in Taiwan, but that's not one of them. Would just love to see it in its entirety. As for swimming in the ocean, may I suggest you only swim using scuba fins? I was caught in an artificial bay outlet in Hawaii once with the tide going out. Stronger than a rip tide. But luckily, I had fins on. So, I just "stood" in the water, treading. Gathered my senses and worked out the topology and casually swam along the shoreline and made myself in. Having the fins took any kind of panic or worry out of my head. And allows me to enjoy my time out there. (As for "it's not as much exercise," that just depends on how much [time] you want to swim.)

Do you need a hotel or tent? can you just make a day trip of it? First ferry out - las ferry in.We've STILL not been because of hotels ALWAYS being sold-out 😕 So few in TW have the luxury to take off in the week to enjoy the beauty of this country.
