Try out some yellow shooting glasses or yellow safety glasses i find it helps a lot to highlight the contours of the snow much easier to see the ditches

I drive gas trucks up the mountain in Colorado and I keep my windshield as cold as possible. I will blast my floor heater and drive with my windows open, the colder the windshield is the better. it prevents the snow from melting and then turning into ice on the windshield.

You need a blower to move the high shoulders. On a light windy day you can send light fluffy snow far away. I’m running a Gritt on my Volvo L60H… it was a bit expensive transporting from Canada but it’s been a good blower. For my application where shoulders can get high on rural roads, it’s a quick way of removing them. I plow 17 miles of my own farm roads and surrounding roads for the state. I also run a Schulte front PTO on a Fendt 828 which works great also.

About tires, the ones that come on loaders in the USA are for construction, mostly dry dirt. They are terrible in snow. In winter I put Nokian winter tires on my L60H, they cannot be beat...the Finn’s know how to make a great snow tire for heavy equipment. Nokian also makes an awesome puncture resistant forestry/brush tire for wheel loaders that’s amazing.

Years ago they had heated wiper blades and there was a system that bolted on to the wiper arm that vibrated on demand the blades to knock off the ice. Check you heater on the air dryer, both the hot lead and the ground, grounds are often forgotten. I don't miss working on the plows and salt trucks.

While I was in the Air Force, as a crew chief, I took my aircraft up to Eilison AFB AK. It was 60 degrees below zero when we landed, and warmed up to 40 below, six weeks later. The only place that was plowed down to pavement, was the runway. All the roads and parking ramps, were hard packed snow, about a foot deep. They just painted new lines on the snow, when they were no longer visible. The aircraft and engines had to be heated around the clock. They were masters at handling snow.

Since you have a plow that will push left or right , try to push the snow down wind so that you don’t make a berm , ie snow fence to cause snow to fall onto the road . If you happen to be creating a snow bank in the middle of the road you can push it on off on the return trip
@paulbirch1596

You guys need to bench plow your banks. Here in Eastern Canada when the banks hit about 3 to 4 ft they run the plow in the shoulder with the wing stuck out about 2 ft off the ground at the front and rear and it creates a ledge or bench effect. Pushes the snow way off in the ditch safely keeps the plow on the rd and provides a ledge or bench to flip new snow onto. Im very sure your aware of this but it looks like it could help you. Grader is definitely the beast for that job. Love your channel. Best wishes from the great white north

Carry a propane torch with you (one a plumber would use to solder copper pipes together). The brass fitting on the air dryer, usually a 90* fitting. Has the hose that runs from the compressor to the dryer. In that fitting it will form an ice plug stopping air from building or really slowing it down. A lot of times you’ll know because the pop off valve on the compressor will be going off to not over pressure the system. It does that because it has warm air from the compressor that rapidly cools off and condensates before the dryer and that condensation hits a -20 brass fitting and freezes Hope this helps

Great Video as always. I like plowing when it's colder as the snow is easier to plow, and it seems that the snow isn't as greasy as when it's close to freezing. It's great that you have the nice wheel loader available to hit the extreme areas as well as when one of the trucks is not being cooperative!

As far as not using the defrost, the best way is to make a deflector that will prevent the defrost to directly hit the windshield, using it this way will keep the windshield cold and allow the wipers to keep the snow off without melting it first. The movement of air within the cab will keep it clear.

When we get a lot of snow here in Vermont, I have observed the town plow trucks using just the wing plow to push back the snow on the side of the road. What they do is lift up wing plow to push back about the top half of piles of along the roads. We don’t get much drifting, so this may not help you.

if you dont wing it out or push the snow out as far as you can the first time you'll always have issues with snow "storage" also if you plow the majority of the snow to the downind of the prevaling wind ,you will find out it drifts in less. also important to mow your ditches in the fall ," the snow will be as deep as the weeds are tall" a well mowed ditch wont stop any snow

So strange. Do you not have snow pegs at the roadside? I thought such were everywhere. On all roads in Sweden, including private roads, there are orange rods with reflectors about 100 feet apart. They are placed in mid-September and removed in mid-May. I guess you have a lot of snow every winter and would need such , but it may be easier to get such poles when the state pays.
