I don't understand why Godox haven't invested in better battery management and charging? It really isn't that difficult to engineer them that way. Great flashes let down by poor chargers. Again another great video from someone that understands battery electrics
@WesPerry4 жыл бұрын
It’s just one of the places they save a lot of money. But at the same time, if you buy a battery separate from a flash, they charge you an arm and a leg. Very odd.
@TimHenrion2 ай бұрын
@@WesPerry Correct. When Godox released their original V860 manual flashes, buying an additional unit (solely for its battery) was a better option than purchasing a spare battery. What's really unfortunate is that Godox packs like the VB18 completely lack cell balancing circuitry. This is *really* where Godox cuts costs. As I look to invest in new Godox products, I'm almost at the point where I'd like someone to send me a hi-res photo of the board inside the battery before I commit. :-)

I fell foul of leaving my Li-ion 580II spare batteries engaged in their chargers after they had been charged completely, but switched off at the mains. The one time in ages I wanted to use them additionally with the bigger flash units and I found out the batteries were flat. It obviously clicked with me that power was being fed back into the chargers. Needles to say I won't be making that mistake with those batteries/chargers or any of the other Godox units I have. Have you ever seen the C26 charger display a single lit LED that runs up the four segment LED display? Normally, the charger should build up the LED sequence from whatever charge the battery has already, e.g., constantly show two LEDs lit and build the other two on top of them in cyclic manner. Sometimes, instead of showing all green LEDs constantly lit at the end of the charge, the charger shows a single green LED moving up the segments, i.e., it looks like a single light is moving up the segments. Whenever that happens, I disconnect the battery (it is an AD600 Pro battery), use it a bit (one full power discharge is enough) and then attach it again. The charger will then resume normal charging. I'm assuming the "single LED moving" sequence is indicating an error condition in which the battery is not accepting more charge but so far I have been unable to have this confirmed by anyone, nor do I know if there is a better "treatment" then what I described. P.S.: Batteries that have been charged up until the single LED moving sequence show as 100% charged on the AD600 PRO display and their own charging indication also indicates full charge. However, when reconnecting them to the C26 charger, the latter starts with only one or two segments constantly lit. It is a shame that none of these three charge indicators agree on any remaining capacity.
@WesPerry2 жыл бұрын
That event indicates that the charger has been unable to evaluate the charge level of the battery. And yeah, usually just using the battery or charging it on a different charger, or waiting and reseating it, or even leaving it on the charger for a bit will resolve this issue.

And the flashes themselves have Always been over generous with their evaluation of charge levels. It would certainly be nice if they all agreed with one another.

I have four WB400PA batteries from my Godox AD400 and two of them stopped charging. Once I got them working again with all the tricks I found on youtube. Not this time. Warranty is off and no trick, even circumventing the electronics, brings them back to live. Of course they discharged too deeply. Part of the problem may be because I have 4 and these two were obviously lying around too long without using them. But honestly, we know those problems for decades, they should really have brought a solution for this. But maybe they do that intentionally, to sell more of them. However, sure is that it is such a mess how every device in photography has its own charger and nothing is compatible.

Is there any other charger we can use instead of godox charger, so it dont deplete the battery while still connected to the charger?
@WesPerry Жыл бұрын
That usb based godox ones don’t seem to back feed. But I haven’t been able to get ahold of the ad200 ones in Canada yet to test them. I just got the one for the AD400 and 600 so we’ll see about those soon. 🤞🏻

i buy a Godox V860ii at the first charge, the battery doesn't charge... please any help

Leave it on the charger for 24 hours. If it does start charging, contact the seller for a replacement.

Is it safe to leave the batteries in the flash-units themselves after they are charged 2/3 for storing ?
@WesPerry3 жыл бұрын
On the flashes with a hard switch, it’s reasonably safe, but it’s not recommended by the manufacturer. You’re supposed to take them out.

Can the battery be charged in the flash or does it require external charger?

Only externally.

my godox v1 battery charging led shows only green light constantly. how do i know whether it’s fully charged or not.. help me please ..

Green means charged, red means charging

but when i put in speed light it shows only two bars though i am charging since 4 hours i am confused
@WesPerry3 жыл бұрын
It would seem the charger isn’t making good contact with the battery and possibly not even trying to charge it.
@reshamthapa18893 жыл бұрын
so what might be the solution sir
@WesPerry3 жыл бұрын
Just make sure the battery is getting all the way into the charger, and also try different wall adapters and charging cables to rule that out.

Can I use a higher output wall wart to charge V1 battery faster?
@WesPerry2 жыл бұрын
Nope It’s just slowwwww all day long A little annoying. All the other Godox batteries charge much faster by comparison.

I just bought V1 and the battery isn’t going above two bars, no matter how long I’ll leave it on charging. Does anything else had the same issue?
@WesPerry2 жыл бұрын
Is the charger showing fully charged, or green? One issue I’ve had in the past is that some bad usb chargers don’t put out a full 5V, and the charger itself seems to base whether or not the battery is charged on a differential between the battery and the source voltage, so a poor usb supply will result in a not fully charged battery. Try a new usb source maybe?
@itzzDizZY2 жыл бұрын
@@WesPerry yup, the charger shows green light so I’m bit confused at this stage that why it’s not going above two bars. Thanks for the tip, I’ll try to charge it with my laptop tomorrow, hope that works.

Not all laptops will supply a current to a device that isn’t smart enough to do a handshake, but it could work.

@@WesPerry I’ll try few other sources as well. I feel like battery is faulty and I might have to buy a new one. Your video is really helpful for me to understand how to take care of these notorious godox batteries. Great flash, poor quality control.

What happened to diodes?
@WesPerry3 жыл бұрын
Apparently they’re too expensive? Haha But seriously, the chargers need circuitry that monitors the charge levels and cell health of the batteries, and that does require a certain amount of current to be siphoned off. But it should only be done for a short measurement, not constantly.

Did you deplete it much? It won’t even try to charge until it’s below what seems about 85 or 90%

Batteries should never backfeed into the charger. The lithium charger should just shut off. I don't yet know of any lithium battery that has a self discharge rate. I understand the self discharge rates of NiMH and Lead Acid but not lithium. I know the need to have a management chip to protect from over or under discharging and this could be the discharge you see. On their own there is no measurable self discharge. They don't work like Lead or NiMH. Maybe a diode could be inserted so there is not back feeding. Trickle charging lithium is dangerous. They will continue to accept a charge if you feed it one. It won't self terminate. Trickle charging is old tech for lead acid and maybe NiMH to keep them fully charged but no no no with lithium. A lithium battery has to be seriously overcharged but make no mistake, overcharging is dangerous even at micro amps.

Hi Wes, I was just wondering about the multi charger for the ad200/ad300 batteries. The one that lets you charge up to six at once. Is this any different and or does it solve any of the problems? Thanks
@WesPerry3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I don’t have one...and don’t really want one. Haha It certainly Looks like it would be the same, but I can’t say for certain. I was thinking of completing my charger collection for another video, but there were a couple I couldn’t get in Canada, so I gave up on that idea.
@christopherleubner663311 ай бұрын
They overcharge the lithium batteries. Naked output creeps up to 4.5V 😮😮😮 per cell, 4.2 is absolute max 3.8 to 4v is full for most lithium ion cells.
