Any use of violence by the Palestinians will always be used as justification for disproportionate action by Israel. If I were an Israeli, I'd likely do the same thing they are doing. A nation ultimately has a duty to protect it's citizens and secure it's borders. Unlike Palestinians, Israel can achieve political and strategic objectives by use of force. No country would permit any group within or outside it's borders to routinely attack it without a disproportionate response if it has the option to do so. Israel does. Imagine if an Indian reservation here in the USA were launching rockets into a major city? We would make that stop one way or another, and it wouldn't matter who was right or wrong. If I were an American, which I am, I wouldn't support either side. Both have every right to hate each other, Israel doesn't need any help, and the Palestinians don't benefit us strategically or economically. So out of all the various crimes around the world that we also have no interest in, why in gods name would I care about this one. We genuinely have better things to do.

That’s why to focus on Hamas is to miss the point, and to reinforce the myth that the conflict is, in some fundamental manner, about the group. Hamas didn’t even have 15% approval in Gaza until the more recent bombings- now it’s obviously 80% and up. This was always Israel’s plan. It is ethnic cleansing, it is genocide. It’s is horrendous. Tens of thousands of civilians murdered and starved to death in a matter of months and its mostly children. Children purposefully targeted.
