The maternal side of family is from Falls Rd/Broadway/Andietown. I was first back in 1992 as a 14-year old with me Granny/Papa. Had guns trained on me at checkpoints, had a car set on fire in front of my house on Broadway, punched by a drunk on a bus back from Newcastle and me cousins and I were throwing rocks at RUC armored jeeps in Andietown telling them to get out of our country. Most of the foot soldiers were from England and didn't wanna be in Belfast. I live outside Chicago. I was at a bar in Palatine-I hear a bouncer speaking and I know WITHOUT A DOUBT this man is from West Belfast. I approach with my West Belfast accent-"Where in West Belfast are you from?" "How do you know I'm from West Belfast?" "I've been listening to the accent me whole life. I know you're from West Belfast." "I'm from Andersonstown." "Oh! Andietown!" "You must be a local if you're calling it Andietown." "In a manner of speaking-so I am." It’s a distinct accent. I know the Dublin accent. For such a small country it has dozens of distinct accents.

And don't forget the Clubhouse that was up beside the Briar. I think big Noel Boyle owned the Clubhouse, the same guy who owned The Kerry Inn. And a true Westie went to St. Pauls on a Sunday night :)
