West Closure Complex Pump Test

Officials from the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-West test the pumps and sector gate at the West Closure Complex in preparation for the upcoming hurricane season. The WCC is the largest pump station in the world, with the largest sector gate in North America.

It is the largest in the US at the present time. 66 years ago, one I've worked at was that record setter and to this day is still the largest one East of the Mississippi River. Our District also was one of the first users of the large Cat engines with the installation of Cat 3606 engines. Some of the teething problems with the design were worked out on ours.
