I can totally relate to James and Justin. The only reason I got into watching the NBA was because of Michael Jordan, and I wasn't even a big basketball fan. Heck, I even cut college classes to go and watch the finals in a nearby restaurant for students and EVERYONE was in there glued to the TV. Good times.

Absolute legends both of you. I always invite my non fgc friends to watch EVO (world) every year and they can pretty much follow along in the the games that James and Sajam commentates, even though they don't play fighting games. But I have to concede that I too am old man now. When frame data got important I pretty much lost interest in playing to improve. I just casually play for fun now.

This video is great. Two friends who've been in different roles of the same industry and the advancements in technology that has happened over the decades. Not just the frame data talk but the fact we can distinctively say a player's name and people recognize them as one of the best in a certain game on a global scale. That was only a dream in the 90s-00s now it's taken for granted.

I asked James about a mechanic in SF6 last week and he literally stopped playing and went into the lab and broke the entire thing down. 30+ mins of his time! (And was asking if i needed more) James is really criminally underrated. He is the leading source of fgc history and a talented educator.

While I never went hard in Marvel, I used to watch you guys play many years ago at CTF, live (when I was 18 in 2001). You guys crowded the MvC2 cabinet, while I'd play DDR with my ex and would periodically take a break to watch you guys going in. Though I could never come close to being at your guys' level, I'll always admire you

This is 100% my experience as well. Used to just go to CTF just to watch because I couldn't hang with them, but then would watch and learn, go back to Connecticut and then wash all the CT players with things theyd never seen before. This was like 2000-2001 around. What a time!

The fact that I went to my first tournament in 92 makes me feel so old 😅. SF 2 tourney at the local Blockbuster Video playing at eight years old. Got washed in the second round but I did beat my brother in the first😤🫡.

Totally agree about EVO. EVO = EVO Vegas, the others need qualifiers. Anything else dilutes what should be the world championship. Like Punk is the current EVO champ, while Mena is the current EVO Japan champ.
