Anyone who's been there back in the early 2000s and again recently knows it's a shell of what it was. No wonder the news is running ads on it. Sad.

its the exact same as it was. you are just nostalgic

Not sure how it is just a shell of what it was. If anything it has expanded since then. Yes, it lost Sears which went bankrupt and just recently B.B. and Beyond, but that was out of their control. It has great theatres, including an IMAX screen. Just saw a movie there a couple of weeks ago. The theatre was packed.

Every mall in every western country is a shell of its former self
@chrthewrestler2301 Жыл бұрын
wem needs to expand or build a third floor. There is not enough spaces for brands to come in. Plus, they should finish the LRT on time...... They should also build a third floor for some parking sections. Right now, they don't have enough parking spaces.... WEM was designed decades ago but they need to do something with the huge increase in population and demand.

It may have that many parking spots, though good luck finding a place to park during the weekend or during the Christmas season. Really miss Circuit Circus (an amazing arcade that was at West Edmonton Mall during the early - mid 2010's).

@HiDDENk00l Жыл бұрын
@@valdiviana1 It definitely has. Malls everywhere have been failing and closing since the rise of online shopping. I mean, look at Triple 5's (WEM's owner) newest mall, American Dream. It opened a few years ago, and they attempted to copy the formula from West Edmonton Mall and Mall of America. It even has an amusement park, a water park and an ice rink, just like WEM, and even an indoor ski slope on top of that! But it's having a hard time attracting tenants.
@my3dviews Жыл бұрын
I like the mall in winter, rather than having to drive around in the cold from store to store. Just park my car and I can go to a restaurant and shop for hours. Sometime just go there to have a long walk. No way that it will close. It is almost always busy, especially on the weekends. Malls do well in Edmonton. Not just W.E.M., but Kingsway, Southgate and a few others that have been around for decades. Also, the LRT will go past West Edmonton Mall in the next few years (construction has been going for awhile), which will make it easier for people across Edmonton to get to the mall without using a car or taking a bus.

It is still going pretty strong. It has to, because it's collateral on a massive loan for Triple 5 Group's American Dream Mall. It kind of feels like it's retail spaces are in transition, though. There's the usual complement of places that didn't survive the pandemic, and sadly there's less oddities like educational toy stores now, but it's still decent. It might wake up a little in 10 years or so, if the rail link is complete by then.

Crossiron is a better MALL though. West ed is like a theme park combined with a mall. The actual retail part is pretty meh and isn’t that big compared to other malls in the country, and it’s also getting up there in age. The water slides are fun though. (There are no elements of the Calgary-Edmonton rivalry in this comment whatsoever)
