Hey billy. Love the german steel as well. My west german 2.5 lbs was same way. Crooked off forge for some reason. Very prodominitly crooked. Can tell just looking at it lol. Stuck it on an ol swedish beat up handle. Tried carving handle to sit straighter. Kinda helped. But for wedge bangger watthehell hey.
@thenorthener68558 жыл бұрын
Haha!! Over 6000 subs!! I like it...Welcome to all new subscribers...Great axe Billy, good wedge system, the heads will never come off. I´d guess that with those round wedges it would be sufficient with one wedge, but with two you will be pretty sure that it will stay on...good job :)

No need to pin those heads buddy, I am pretty sure you figured out a way to bond wood and steel on a molecular level lol! I sent back a brand new wetterlings that was off 3 times that far. No joke. It had a 10" handle, and it was forged so crooked that when you say the edge on a straight line, at the end of the handle it was over 1/2" over the line. Went back to the vintage stuff after that! Welcome to all you new subscribers, glad to see you starting to comment, let's keep the positivity flowing!

I also have a wedge banger that leans a little to the left if you know what I mean...😊 All jokes aside, I wanted to ask you if you had ever heard of the German Axe maker "Luna". Has 2 moons in the logo. I'm restoring a forest axe and hatchet from this maker, my clients Granddads axes. Any info you can give is much appreciated. FYI, I'm Canadian and live in Germany and can find no info! Thanks in advance!🍻

6,001 SUBS! Have you tried soaking prior putting the wedges in to minimize the wood cracking? Maybe put just the wood sticking out the top in some boiling water for 5 or 10 minutes. Mr.P
@larryduttry94008 жыл бұрын
Actually water damages the wood fibres and makes them much weaker on a handle. It makes sense to soak it to help but it actually causes the cells to fracture in the wood. That's why if you have a loose handle don't soak it, when it dries it gets worse, drill out the old dried wedge and reseat the head and put a new wedge in, and oil it up so it can't get water in and won't dry out as bad. That's the stuff I saw when I was researching anyway :) I hope you pathfinders are doing well and keeping warm! Oh and did ya get that lil Husqy 445 fired up yet?
@mr.mrs.pathfinder6688 жыл бұрын
Larry Duttry Thanks for the info! You think soaking it in BLO before putting in the metal wedge would help with the cracking? Yeah, we got it fired up! Mrs. P even dug into a log with it. I'll get her comfortable with sharp loud things one of these days, haha!

Do you like the round metal wedge better than the flat wedge ?
@larryduttry94008 жыл бұрын
I have tried both and the round wedges are a better design, they spread the wood 360 deg around itself in an even fashion, the flat stepped wedges just kinda split everything. And I have had them back out. The round do seem to hold more pressure on everything. I hope this helps, I am sure Buckin will give you his 2 cents too, he sure knows what he's talking about eh?!
