West Highland Way - Stage 1

Stage 1 of the West Highland Way.
I cover the beginning of the WHW starting at Milngavie to Conic Hill. This section of the hike is flat and paved paths, after a few miles you hit Conic Hill which I would say is when the trail starts to get real scenic as you look over the beautiful Loch Lomond and surrounding area.
Personally, I decided to not stick to schedule routes that are recommended and wanted to enjoy the views and the walk. I hope this video helps if you are planning on doing the trail and want some ideas of places to wild camp especially in the next few episodes.

Fantastic! The tinted water is coloured by peat. As You stand on Conic hill you are actually standing on a fault line. At the top of Conic hill everything to your right is "Highlands" and everything on the left is "Lowland". To your left all of the stone is soft sand stone and everything to your right or North is Granite or slate hard stone.

Done a few long hikes now and if covid hadn't got in the way I would have done WHW at the beginning of Sept. Hopefully do it next year, all things etc etc. Good for you finding someone to talk to and get along the trail with, you look and sound happy about that happening. Me, I'm happy not seeing anyone start to finish, I'll chat here and there to anyone but am much happier clocking up the miles. Keep up the good work, all the best.

Three years ago I went to England but i didn't have much time to get to know many places however through your videos i can live those moments in a natural way through bushcraft and hiking. It will be wonderful to get to know highlands Scotland and enjoy each stage. Milngavie....translates as Moulin Gavie...David's Mill, who was King David I of Scotland. It is now the site of a wonderful Indian Restaurant.

I did the WHW two years ago, and like you met someone on my first night. We walked the rest of it together, and we’re now good friends. We’re planning on doing the Coast to Coast together next year! Done the WhW and most of Cape Wrath North to South before, was planning on abroad treks for next year until Covid, so I've decided to do the WhW, then Summit Ben Nevis, and then the Cape Wrath trail in one big trek next summer. Absolutely love the Scottish countryside, apart from the midges in the summer

Sorry I'm late to the party. But only just seen your video. Even though it was 3 years ago, you were really lucky to be able to camp on conic Hill and not be absolutely wind swept off there. I have done the West highway 3 times and every single time the top of conic Hill is way too windy to camp. You were very lucky, looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos.
