Welcome to Coffee Walk Ep. 139!
I got a last minute phone call last night that a group of cars that I have been chasing for a while now could finally be mine. The kicker? It was 4pm in Dallas and we had to make it to Amarillo with the truck and trailer by morning. (Insert dad joke)… CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
My team and I took off from the shop last night and headed out West to Amarillo, Texas for an 800 mile rescue mission. Watch us save a 1966 Porsche 912, 1968 Dodge Charger 318 V8 and a 1969 Dodge Charger 383 V8 4V 4-speed. We’ve had a high amount of energy drinks and a low amount of sleep over the last 24 hours, but the juice was DEFINITELY worth the squeeze on this one!
As always… GO FAST, HAVE FUN & HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!! and thanks for watching!

@@joe6096 I disagree. The rest of us had 30 years time to get those cars. If he doesn‘t do something with them (being restoring, restomodding or parting out) they will just rot away and the rest of us won‘t see them at all anymore. And that will cost money. Those are antiques. Now you have the chance to buy cars cheap nobody wants. LS1 Camaros are cheap. LS3 Camaros get cheaper and cheaper. SRT Challengers are cheap, S197 Shelby Mustangs are relatively cheap.

"it’s really nice these guys are saving these beautiful cars!" Yeah, is it though? If they hadn't hoarded them for decades, these cars could have been sold in way better condition. Did Dennis not say these were the only cars the yard had ever sold? Surely, it would have been better to sell them before the weather/wildlife got to them? The lack of "rusty weather" has certainly helped but it seems like a real waste to me.
@Delta_NWAB747fan
@Delta_NWAB747fan 3 жыл бұрын
@@2H80vids but if they didn’t do anything, they’d still be sitting in the yard rotting away. Would you rather have them do nothing? It’s not a waste, the cars he saved will be restored and hopefully back on the road and become rolling history. I think I know what you’re trying to say, but if they didn’t do anything, they’d be gone for good, and that would be a real waste. If you think they shouldn’t have done anything, in my opinion you aren’t a car guy.

I worked with a guy who grew up in the San Francisco area when Bullet was being filmed. He had a 68 Charger that was green and it needed a bunch of work as he had ran it a lot. The production company was looking for 6 chargers to use for the filming. They paid him far more than it was worth which he happily took. His car was used as the car that runs into the gas station at the end of the movie. If you look close it was supposed to hit a pump and then have the explosion, however the car had a mind of its own and ran between the station and the pump. The special effects guy blew the station and unless you know what to look at you would think it hit the pump. According to my friend it was still usable after the shoot banged up a lot and compared to these Chargers was in better shape. He didn't know what happened to the car. He did get to watch the shooting which is why he knew of the problem with the explosion and his car surviving.

Love the show; Bullit came out in 1968 while I was in high school (freshman in 1972); one of the priests secured the film reel and let us watch it all we wanted (no streaming, no VHS, no DVD's back then). We had the actual film. I will never know why we got to watch an R-rated movie while in a minor Catholic Seminary, but it solidified my love of cars. Frank Bullit was the police, though, and the Charger was the bad guys (not the police). We watched the car scene multiple times, in reverse, forward, slow speed, etc. The Charger loses about 5 wheel covers during the chase, and a green VW gets passed about three times. But as Dennis says, both vehicles were terrific. The only Coffee Walk episode, and I have about watched them all, that I can correct Dennis, but never on his knowledge of cars. Thanks for all the great entertainment Dennis, and for sharing your knowledge of vehicles.

I have become addicted to your channel! One of the biggest reasons is you and your teams attitude! Always up, always smiling, always positive, and always about cars! THANK YOU! I do have one thing that has me scratching my head............why are you guys driving a vehicle with what appears to be a "check engine" or maybe a "service due" light on?!?! Or is that a trick in the filming that makes it appear to be on?!

Best Looking Muscle cars EVER ! My car is a "BULLITT" car. Triple Black 68 R/T, Stripe Delete. I bought it the summer after High school in 1989. Body was awesome,, but the drivetrain was SHOT. $500 to fix, so I guess you could say I gave a Total of $1,600 for it. Drove the wheels off it & it ended up being parked in '97. In the process of doing what they call a "Rolling Restoration" Great find for you Dennis

It baffles me how someone could’ve junked a car that was only 6 years old. Even with a blown motor, it would’ve been worth repairing back in the day.

Due to the 1973 OPEC oil embargo interest was very low for V8 cars. As an example my first car was a 69 Barracuda bought at a plymouth dealer in 1974, 5 years old, 70k miles, I paid 375 dollars for it!
@johnnymula2305
@johnnymula2305 3 жыл бұрын
@@mitchevans1692 i get the cheap prices. I had a 71 GTO Convertible with 455 HO back in the mid 80’s. It had faded paint. And needed seats redone. But i only payed 350. Drove it daily for a year. But that was about a15yr old car. Even with gas issues (which i remember as a kid) i cant see dumping a 5 year old car. Theres so much more life in it.
@mitchevans1692
@mitchevans1692 3 жыл бұрын
@@johnnymula2305 I think what is difficult to understand for people that weren't of driving age was the uncertainty of the situation, this was the first time America was powerless over their own economics, nobody knew what was going to happen with price and supply of gas so there was a period of time that the value of V8 cars dropped to the point where scrap value was near equal to market value on a car that needed work. Smart people held on to them, this wrecking yard was smart not to crush some of them.
