Great video. Question perhaps someone can answer…while the arms are deployed, the “flopper stopper” planes are not. Wouldn’t that have helped to a large degree during the worst of it?

At the start you say skipper turns into the wave to straighten up. What would happen if he steered a straight course? I'm a (sail) boatie. This is interesting to watch, thanks. Most advice, videos eg Coastguard to cross a bar is for planing hull boats eh.

Thanks for the comment! I’d love to hear a skipper’s perspective on this too. From what I understand, he’s trying to stay upwind of the bar, and he may also be avoiding a sandbar where the waves are breaking.

no, not that one. You may be thinking of the two Govt ships (the Inter-island ferry and the Navy ship that rammed Samoa) They were both on auto-pilot while a little close to the shoreline. And the crews either didn't know, or didn't know how to get it off auto-pilot. They ended up in 4WD on the land.

Stabilisers -- they help roll as you can see in this video they work quite well when it hits the water. But I'd love a fishing boat Captain to reply because I am just a self taught videographer.
