Some of my videos from 2024 have been truly epic, with plenty more to come before the year is out. Thank you all for your incredible support! Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a safe, happy holiday season.

Tanea gets my number 1 vote, straight as an arrow, tough looking little boat obviously has an experienced skipper.

Have worked on a couple of those "Jay'" boats, 'Seahunter II' and the 'Jay Patricia' . Solid vessels bought back fond memories.

That Ocean Discovery is a beast. Makes it look easy. Good example of a vessel built to purpose. Skippers using the Greymouth entrance have large gonads. Imagine a few city slickers trying to keep their lunch around there. Keep up the good videos....just normal for locals I know.

The skippers definitely have balls, some pretty gnarly crossings.

Imagine having to face this to go to your job in the morning and also face it coming home. I hate peak hour traffic but it's gotta be easier and less scary than this

I have a kauri launch,a double ender built for the west port harbor board in 1933 and I suppose she crossed that bar a few times

@westcoastrippers9862 I still have the boat her name is kaiurunga and she will take me to the sounds in march-- still going strong although I can't imagine how many repowers she has had, at the moment the engine is a 120 HP Perkins, will cruise all day at 8 knots just as happy as

@@richardeasther2569 "That’s awesome to hear she’s still going strong! Kaiurunga sounds like a real workhorse, and a trip to the Sounds in March will be magic. Have a safe trip.

1:23 I thought it was all over for him, once he started going broadside.

I had trouble filming him, he did well to keep it straight. He is a well experienced captain, This bar can catch you out any time.

@@westcoastrippers9862 I've only been there once myself, back in '01 around Christmas, but it was pretty calm that day. My local is the Manukau but there are channels to the north and south - it only gets a bit hairy for a short distance.

Very nice to watch!!! But it takes guts to be a fisherman for shure….
@westcoastrippers9862Ай бұрын
Does it take guts or are they half mad?🤪🤪🤪

@Antipodean33 Haha, I'd take peak hour traffic over this any day! These skippers deserve a medal for facing those conditions every day

They regularly cross the bar in the night - some of the fisherman talk about the scariest crossings are at night.
