The first pro to clearly explain elasticity in a way that I "got" was Bill Cameron in a workshop at the first MADjam (1992?). But the first pro to get me to understand the all-important rolling count was MaryAnn Nunez. Further thanks for Mario Robau's endless drills of counting the music to hear the hard and soft breaks, Robert Royston's explanations of tonic/resolve and Christopher Hussey's one-two / one-and-two counts.

Excellent compendium of summaries. Re feet rolling: I do TaiChi and focus in slow motion on the weight shift from heel to toes and in reverse. Thank you for including the paradigm shift of lead/follow as conversation and not even a hijack.

Even a lot of intermediate social dancers, don’t bother with the triple step at seams and just walk it out, and I’m not talking about intentional styling

okay 1 + 2 1 and 2 back-to-back tricks me up. 12 1 & 2 12 1 & 2. that is a predictable pattern. it's when they go 1 + 21 + 2 and I don't know when that's going to happen.😮

Well the point in counting in 2 beat increments is so you don’t think about how many counts are in a pattern. All you have to do is think about 2 beats at a time. If you are a follower try to trust the lead of your leader. It is possible that you are unfamiliar with the base move that the longer or bigger patter is. So knowing your base patterns is super helpful.
