@charliewhitney34945 жыл бұрын
@@cmusic52 it was a cold start 401 ford that had been setting sounded like real good compression once she warms up a little bit that smoke will go away the Ford tractor engine is a very efficient running engine and it is normal for them to have that color smoke on cold startup everyday for the first few minutes you got to remember she's Turbo and the feels going to be turned up kind of like the tractors you see at the tractor pulls it's the same 401 that's used in all those tractors ford 8000 on up they just turn the fuel up add turbos and a inner coolers very unlikely it has a single problem with any injectors unless there was a failed fuel filter issue or maybe a dry seal in the turbo that would take a minute to seal back up. Ford didn't build these things to malfunction they built them to run forever once in awhile The Sims piston type injector pump will get a stuck delivery valve from running crappy fuel for a cheap fuel filter it's a simple fix a little penetrating oil under the cover plate on the side of the injector pump sometimes a little prying action manipulation with a screwdriver and your back up and running normal we put thousands and thousands and thousands of hours on these engines without ever touching anything other than water pumps and starters and alternators are other tractors in different colors we are changing injectors all the time especially the pencil type but these old Ford Lucas injectors are an English design and they just work even if this tractor set for 20 years in a building as long as the motor wasn't set up she'd fire right up

@@thecam0073 -- That's not really a thing. Companies care more about materials costs these days and with EPA restrictions (yes, even on refrigerators) on top of that, they don't over-engineer things to last any more. Now, it's all abput making the lightest, most energy or fuel efficient product that pollutes the least. It dies at the day the warranty expires because that warranty period is the amount of time they CAN warranty the product before a certain percentage will die, as opposed to the myth that the product is designed to die right as it is going out of warranty.
@@hkrsescort Absolutely not. The truth is MUCH more nuanced than "planned obsolescence". Maybe you mis-read or maybe you don't understand how engineering works. We don't design a car to last a certain number of years and then die. We design cars to meet the governmental regulations/restrictions, consumer expectations/desires, and finally, to be safe/durable. It is mostly EPA fuel efficiency/emissions regulations and the consumer's desire not to be bent over and ass raped at the pump that makes vehicles only last a couple hundred thousand miles. You can't put a big beefy iron block with cylinder walls 5 times as thick as they need to be and expect to get 25-45 mpg...or even properly cool itself to hit the target for NOx emissions. It doesn't work that way. They're too heavy and there is too much material holding heat for the water to be able to carry it away. You're lucky to see 15 mpg out of the older tanks with engines that last forever and can be bored and rebuilt a million times when they finally DO die. I suppose we COULD go with a titanium alloy but would you REALLY want to pay for that?

I'm a parts guy for Peterbilt, but in my past life, I was a New Holland (i.e. Ford Tractor) parts guy. Good find! I'd strip out the sheet metal and thoroughly clean out those rats nests, though, because that is how fires start, and if she burns, you'll have a heck of a time finding replacement parts as some of that is obsolete. Those 6 cal tractors were sure good ones, and they are worth making right. The transmission and power steering oils need dumped, then put in real 134G Ambra oil from New Holland. Anything that's universal won't lubricate the clutch and brake pads in it, and you'd end up splitting the tractor to replace the brakes. Much cheaper to just use the proper oil. Also use Ambra 15w40 engine oil, it is a true tractor oil that doesn't have the additives pulled out to meet EPA standards like what Rotella had to do. Replace the power steering round filter, the two hydraulic filters, and the engine oil filter, and new fuel filters. Good luck on her! That injector should be an easy fix, too, just make sure your rubber boots are good on the return lines, and be cautious with the fuel lines, they are obsolete as well.
