Victory Song from them is one of the best songs of all time. Truly deserving of the word "epic". 10 minutes of sword swinging, horse galloping and camp fires.

You should check out some stuff from their first two albums with Jari from Wintersun in the band. Treacherous Gods, Windrider, Battle Song, and Iron are a few to start with.

You should check Ensiferum's first two albums, self-titled and Iron, where Jari Mäenpää played guitar and sang.

The defence of the Sampo from their last album sounds like a sequel of this song, the sound is very remarkable of Stone Cold Metal. Hope you react to more songs from Thalassic albums, specially One with the Sea.

This is Jari's (Wintersun) old band. He sang and played guitar on the first two albums. You should give those a listen.

Ensiferum is great. One of my favorites. Every album has something to offer but is different from each album. Jari from Wintersun did there first 2 albums. They are releasing a new album this year. I recommend Victory Songs and Windrider to react to.

You are in for a treat with Ensiferum, one of the Folk Metal Big Five from Finland (others being Moonsorrow, Turisas, Korpiklaani and Finntroll)! I can say with 100% faith that you will love this band. As many have said, two first albums (Self titled and Iron) have Jari from Wintersun as vocalist/guitarist and those are great albums. But as Jari was not the only composer in the band with Markus "Mahi" Toivonen (lead guitarist, one of the bands founders) also composing, Ensiferum would still continue to make excellent folk metal to this day. Jari and Ensiferum parted ways in 2004 when the scheduled studio time for recording Wintersun's debut album conflicted with touring with Ensiferum. Petri Lindroos from Norther came in to fill the place of vocalist/guitarist and has done so exceptionally well. The man is also very capable with guitar, throwing some awesome solos himself. Nowadays he is also the vocalist/guitarist of the revived Warmen (COB keyboardist Janne "Warman" Wirman's old band) and also has a black metal band called Satanic North, where Ensiferum's drummer Janne Parviainen is also playing. And if you haven't heard of Norther, they were a melodic death metal band with great guitar riffs and melodies. Also, Jukka Koskinen (Wintersun, Nightwish, Crownshift) was Norther's bassist. So, quite a lot of connections between different bands :D I also have to mention the Ensiferum bassist Sami Hinkka, hell of a player and a fun guy as well. They have also had a few ladies in behind the keyboard with Meiju Enho and Emmi Silvennoinen. After them, World Champion digital accordion player Netta Skog (ex-Turisas) joined the band to play keys with her accordion and bring in some female vocals. Netta has also featured some live shows with Nightwish and Children Of Bodom playing a few songs with them. In 2022 she was in the orchestra of Cirque de Soleil. After Netta left, Ensiferum found Pekka Montin to be the next and current keyboard player. He also brought in some proper power metal belting vocals. As I mentioned, I have no doubts you will like this band a lot. They have a lot of material to chew on, and I would suggest you just start from the beginning and see how the band has evolved. They don't have any bad albums, just some in between that weren't as great than the previous/next one. One of the bands I have listened to since I was a young boy over 20 years ago, they have always been a part of my playlists.

Ensiferum are great, aren't they? Excellent reaction and I'm glad you liked them (but was there really any doubt?). While it's cool and interesting to think about whether the music of the Vikings influenced the music of the First Nations and disseminated around the continent, I really don't think that's the case. What we think of as "American western" music was born from the likes of Aaron Copland and contemporaries, who wrote and established "American" classical music, distinct from German, Italian, Russian, or other classical music. Furthermore, while it's well-established that the Vikings landed in Newfoundland and possibly made it as far south as New England, there's no data as to any interactions they had with the First Nations (but almost certainly were not the sorts of relationships that results in sharing of music), and their colonies ultimately did not survive long-term.

Petri are good but Jari was great. Im talking about the vocalist. 😉 Please do some more Ensiferum from their first albums with Jari on vocals. I suggest "Battle Song". 🤘

Great band and reaction. I will say that this song is a good representative of their scope and breadth but it's not necessarily typical. A lot of their music is a little thrashier. A more recent video that you guys might really like is called rum women victory that was made during COVID lockdown. It has fan input in the video and it's really entertaining and the song is great
