I think you have started to understand why so many like Sabaton, they bring history to life, and do it in a way that even a teen weary of study will be able to get through, I am well past my 50hh birthday, but, I know for a fact that a dyslexic neighbour kid got more than a passing grade in history because of them.

Finland had been under Russian domination for a very long time. Finally, after the turmoil that arose in Russia at the end of WWI, the Finns saw their chance and declared their independence. The Finns celebrate that date, December 6, 1917, every year and one way is by lighting two blue and white candles and placing them in their windows. What a coincidence that this reaction is appearing on December 6, 2023. Later conflict with the Russians, but still.

I couldn't have timed it better then! How cool that I did this today! Didn't know it was their independence day. 😊

Also legend says those candles refer to civil war (between whites and reds) which ensued right after the declaration of independence. Those candles were to signal any "whites" (west or nationalistic side of the war) that the house was not occupied by the "reds" (Soviet side). And was therefore safe to seek shelter and help from.

One of the most heroic songs is " No Bullets Fly" you need to watch the animated version. But definitely check out the Sabaton History Channel version first.

Yes, please continue to react to their history. By doing that you help people to understand the history of war. And by doing that, more people will be aware and not doing all the old mistakes again. Nice reaction!

I just have to love the reason she picked this video first! 😂 I'm also glad she started her path into learning more war history because of Sabaton because she now graduates from great reactor to awesome history nerd! P.S. Having her husband reacting with her would be a great idea and it's definitely an exercise recommended by marital counselors everywhere (up there with building Lego sets with your significant other). 😉

Wars are always seen in black and white, the winners write the history. USA sent poor Soviet Union 450 thousand vehicles, 10 thousand airplanes, 450 million artillery shells etc. some of these ended up against Finland in the continuation war. After most countries left Finland without support in the winter war, I am not at all surprised that Finland received help from Germany. Without German help, Finland might be part of Russia. When the great powers redraw their front lines, the small country can be overrun.

And speaking as a Finn, we didn't want to formally ally with Germany, nor did we ever - we just sent men to be trained by a bigger military power, then they came back home and used their skillsets, and we were co-belligerents along with Germany against the USSR for very, very obvious reasons (Karelia back, darnit!) There's some amazing documentary stuff about the Winter War if you're inclined, @WhyAmIReacting - like this one, foreigner-friendly with subtitles I believe? kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYOVd6SDiruNsMU It's long, but pretty please, it's so worth it to learn. :) I lost family in the Winter War. My great-grandpa's younger brother, Ilmari, who was a sergeant in the Karelian Isthmus region, from near Muolaa, Karelia, was killed defending, and my great-grandpa got shrapnel in his body he carried to his grave. Saluting all the veterans who sacrificed and defended! Without them, there would BE NO FINLAND.

I hope you will continue reacting to sabaton history. So many fascinating stories. As others have mentioned every episode is explaining the story behind one of their songs. They have a history episode for every song. So by all means catch up on history episodes of the songs you have already heard from Sabaton, then my recommendations would be No Bullets Fly and Night Witches as good starting points but all songs and history episodes are really good. White Death is one of my favourites and is about a Finnish soldier in the winter war, so maybe that's the logical next one to check out?

Great reaction , i hope you continue with the history videos. You should look into doing their song and history video for "Screaming Eagles" in honor of the WW2 -Battle of the bulge (16 December 1944 to 28 January 1945,)

Yes every sabaton song has a history channel video that talks about it or several videos like cliffs of gallipoli which has 2 parts which is obviously about the gallipoli campaign of ww1 and i love their videos my favourite album is carolus rex and I'd love it if your husband watched some sabaton with you it'd be really cool and yes eventhough finland did surrender soviets didn't conquer all of finland like they wanted too because they had to settle for all that border territory and they humiliated the soviet army and gave them a black eye

Sir Cristopher Lee. There are also rumours that even Tolkien himself took part at some level. I recall though the Lee wanted to fight but was not allowed.

The Continuation War followed The Winter War. My father volunteered in it at the age of 17. Many think that the movie portraying this war, "The Unknown Soldier", is the best war movie in history. I may be biased but I agree. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXTbpomdlLOfsLcsi=EBVEBL-Y2YlzJQK2
