Western Cape: Groups in South African region push for secession

Some groups in South Africa's Western Cape province are pushing for independence.
Support for the governing party has dropped in recent years, with it losing power in most major cities in recent local elections.
While those behind the move for secession say the African National Congress is dragging the province down, others argue the move is racially motivated.

With every election where all ethnicities participate, the result is always that The Western Cape as a whole does not want the ANC. How can Western Cape achieve independence when there is virtually no independent parties in power except for Freedom Front Plus, and they are not popular in Cape Town. Cape Town's mayor is Geordin Hill-Lewis and he is white. In fact, DA has pretty much been in control of Cape Town since 2009. DA doesn't want independence. So, no one is against white people asking for self-determination. The reality is SA as a state works pretty badly, smaller units are easier to administer and smaller countries are usually less prone to corruption (because there's less to steal), maybe breaking the country apart into independent provinces isn't the best idea but moving power and administration to the regions would probably be more efficient than whatever you have now (full disclosure I'm not from SA)

The pastoralists who lived in the Western Cape when the Europeans landed and were chased eastwards with the ever-expanding Cape Colony frontier into what would later become the country's first native reserves (rebranded as"homelands" in the 20th century), and later made up the Xhosa & Coloured labourers of the Cape, have a claim to this province. Countless Xhosa & non-Asian Coloured people in the Western Cape have familial ties in the Eastern part of the Cape. There's no way this doesn't lead to civil war if ever attempted.

there are parallels to other multicultural empires of the past, it's just not as big geographically. And yes, maybe it needs to be broken up. Yes remember in in 1990's Nkosi Mntakaphindangene proposed a federal system to provences but people couldn't approved because hopes were high for freedom/ democracy then. Prime Ministers of the provences run their provences like federal states. Two years later the calls have gotten louder. Polls now show of the registerd voters from just the western cape ruling party DA between 65 and 75% want to break away from south africa. Western cape by demographic is the only province where there is not a racial majority. Venezuela is going through economic crisis which affected Cuba because its oil doesn't come from Arab countries. In Cuba health and education are free for everyone from the beginning till PHD level. Health care is the same for everyone not like here in South Africa where best health care is for the rich. Cuba has the highest literally levels in the world, higher than US. Castro did empower his people to be educated, Cuba tried to survive with US sanctions and little to no foreign investment. Cuba is not a wealthy country but they did a lot of things right to preserve their own country. The people of Cuba own their own country now like here in South Africa where its citizens are ruled by colonists, don't bother telling me that the country is ruled by black people, yes it is but the general people have no land, no wealth distribution, highest level of poverty and inequality. Yes ANC is corrupt but tell the whole history of South Africa not what suits people, people find it so easy to talk about ANC corruption and forget how oppression begin in South Africa, the story must be told from the beginning, so that it will be solved. Cuba is starting to enter a controlled free market that people can have private business which had never happened before because all businesses were state owned. The great thing with that it will prosper the people of Cuba not capitalist exploiters like here in South Africa.
