Nice looking pattern. I will have to add some to my box. Thanks, sir.

I have been using the wet version for about 40 years, it is the fly i always start with,and has been my most productive pattern period.
@McFlyAngler4 жыл бұрын
Oh cool, yeah the wet version is all I’ve ever seen before, but apparently the dry version used to also be very popular

Nice to see this pattern up on the screen! It has been around for a long time but has sort of dwindled to obscurity. I have tied them using white calf tail as well, either way works. You did an excellent job of presenting this pattern! Let me see if I can find the applause emoji.💥💥🙌🙌🙋

Thanks Kerry! Man I’ve not seen the dry fly version honestly. Only the wet one before. Glad to hear you approve! Haha

Gerald S I was thinking along the same lines. Looks like a cross between a stimulator and a hopper. I’d dead drift it in a larger size #10-12 in the alpine lakes here.

Nice fly buddy. Not going to be tying one any time soon because I sold my house and all of my tying stuff is in a tote. But watch out come spring, I'm buying a motor home and touring the country looking for new places to fish. Keep the good stuff coming.

Johnny Lightning That sounds like a trip of a lifetime. Hope you make it out West. Trout fishing in Utah and Idaho is fantastic!

For such a dense fly it looks very floatable. Nice looking fly too.
@McFlyAngler4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah but I think it’s dense in semi floating materials so, yeah should float. How you been Bob?

McFly Angler Hey Shawn. I’m doing OK and thanks for asking. Headed to Utah Oct. 15 with the posse plus my son and his buddy. Really miss your company Shawn and would have loved if you can make the journey some day. I will never forget you bringing the portable bench and tying flies on the spot. It was epic having your personal expert tying flies minutes before fishing them. I’m targeting a PB brown and rainbow this trip and your rainbow streamer will be put to good use. I still think that is the greatest fly ever invented for targeting big trout. A “hall of fame” fly for sure! There have been a number of fires in the local mountains including my favorite fishing locations so I’m on eggs about the damage to the watersheds there. The lake area isn’t affected though so we’ll be limited to that area. We named that corner of Eagle Lake “Shawn’s Cove” after you hammered all those trout casting into a 30 mph head wind!

Haha thanks man! Yeah I wish I could come also! Just right now things are crazy! We are improving our situation slowly though so maybe one day.

Fished this pattern for almost 20 years as a dry. Little known, super productive pattern.
@McFlyAngler4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Nice to hear. Well it is very pretty no question, and easier to tie than the wulff style. I’d want to see the royal version without the difficult wings that come from tying a wulff.
@farmerbob45544 жыл бұрын
Pithy Counsel Hi. Do you dead drift it like a conventional dry fly or can you skate and twitch it like a terrestrial? It looks maybe like a hopper or stimulator? What size has worked for you? I’m fishing mostly mountain streams, still water and tail waters in California and Utah.
@pithycounsel74914 жыл бұрын
@@farmerbob4554 generally fish it like a conventional dry. It's more of an attractor like the R. Wolff. I wouldn't leave home without half a dozen if I'm hitting mountain streams. Sizes 12-18. I find 16 the most productive early and mid-season and the tend to lean on the larger sizes late summer and early fall.

Why not use UV resin? What's the advantage of head cement?
@McFlyAngler4 жыл бұрын
Well you could! But with a small fly it’s tough to get UV resin in there without covering up the hook. Even with head cement it can happen, this is “water based” head cement which is different. It’s all up to you. Use what you feel more comfortable with.
@colincampbell51814 жыл бұрын
Nice job great fly but with tail it’s a little long ,try using the second black band as a marker where the tail should be tied in on the hook
