Seagate was the first to bring a Storage Expansion Card to the Xbox and it is also the home of the largest Storage Expansion Card currently. The Seagate 2TB Storage Expansion Card is the largest currently available, but the need for 4TB cards continues to grow. Let's take a look at the 2TB offering from Seagate and talk about the future of Storage Expansion on the Xbox. When will we get 4TB cards? When will WD offer a larger card? I love how gaming went from memory cards to no card and now back to memory cards.

I am not really sure that I would call it a "memory card" because while it is housed in something that might remind you of a memory card, the Xbox Storage Expansion Cards (SEC) are really more than that. This is an actual high performance flash memory SSD contained in a removable format with a built-in heat sink. Unlike other systems that just use a M.2 SSD, Xbox opted for a design that was removable and swappable. While some many not like the pricing and I too am in that camp, if they added a second Storage Expansion Card slot in the front of the console and made it even more useful, I would be more of a fan if they can get the pricing under control. Well... I am not 100% on board with that thought. For those who want "hot-swap" ability this gives Xbox users that as well as the ability to have a storage device that is far more durable than a M.2 drive that requires disassembly of the unit to install. While not perfect mainly due to cost, it is a good solution, but performance and pricing isn't necessarily as good as Xbox owners would like. Thanks for Watching!

@marlbsmann My thoughts are the same as yours! I like xbox ssd because it just plugs into it so easily. I'm just disappointed it's taking too long for storage to become cheaper so that makes me prefer what Sony did. Looking at my comment again I should of said a bit more lol

IDK - The cost will be high. I estimate it will be $400 or more with the current price of necessary flash and the margin they want. Thank you for the comment!

the price of the 2 TB seagate drive on the xbox website is more than a series S carbon black edition (in Canada anyway) could you imagine how much seagate is going to charge for 4 TB?

Well this is something that has been a continuing issue for a long time and one of the reason Microsoft was so slow adopting SSD storage technology was the RAW cost. Fast SSD flash costs money and only now are 2TB SSDs becoming very normal to see. If you like to play a lot of games, storage is an issue. Thank you for watching!

I just recently bought a second card, this time a WD Black C50 with 512GB. As I don't like to keep many games installed and my 1TB Seagate expansion card is used more as a travelling card, I think it's more than enough space to last me a generation, and hopefully it will be useful in the 10th gen as well.

That card would definitely be helpful at a lower price. I have. practically no room left on my console with the one terabyte. with the newer games are coming out, taking up so much more space. I can only have up to like 3 games on it. I Do have a 8 terabyte Hard drive with all the older games, but that's no help for the new ones ): Also, the bigger the game, the slower transfer speed takes up to like 30 minutes to an hour still, just to transfer S/X Games And why not just put in a 2 terabyte in the consul itself? Then it's the same size chip And it's compatible with the console itself right?

Still a bit too expensive, especially considering I already paid $80 for and continue to use a 2TB external HDD for storing games. Can live with even its USB 3.0 transfer speed, which still much faster than my 80mbps internet.

True that. If you have the speed and you can live with re-downloading then I get it. For me I have an 8TB WD Black as well as a 2TB USB SSD that I use to off-load from the Storage Expansion Card and the Internal SSD on to the USB drives and just copy them back when I need them and that way they stay updated.

I wish someone would come out with a adapter to plug into the expansion slot and plug into like a 8 or 10tb SSD where you could get out cheaper.. I’ve seen and read about people buying the China card holder and putting their own cards in them and formatting them to work with the Xbox. But then I’ve read about others who couldn’t get them to work.. Who knows..

Hate to say it a lot of those don't work the console SSD has a specific format that won't go on just any normal SSD not really 100% sure why though but I also know that it asks for a specific transfer speed which no adapter seems to be able to provide that I no of

The storage expansion cards is the fast SSD storage which is the same performance at the internal SSD that is in your Series S/X console. Series S/X games have to run from either the internal SSD or a Storage Expansion Card. While you can load/copy/store non-Series S/X games on the Storage Expansion Card, while you might see a small benefit in improved performance because of the higher speed SSD, in most cases it is not really much faster than traditional Xbox One USB 3.0 storage such as an external hard drive or external SSD, but it can improve performance in some cases. 90% of my Xbox one games I keep in a 8tb external storage device. And it’s over 3/4 the way full and it seems to run them fine. These new x/s games are a way to make more money by selling you higher priced expansion cards. And this hole new era of let’s sell you a game and will just put 300mbs of data on a disk then you have to download 50 or 100gbs off line. When they could spend 20 or 30 cents more and put it on a better disk like the older games were.. Sadly if they made a 4 or 6 or 8 or 10tb expansion card they would sale just because of the demand of not having to delete games from a person’s console that they downloaded 100-250gbs of data. Especially the ones with crappy internet like mine. That live in rural areas.. I get a wrapping up to 18mbps internet witch is usually around 10-12.. I have since gotten wireless just for my Xbox and get upwards of 20-100mbps depending on the time of the day..

Actually I think the statement they made was no 4TB card this year. We will see were the market is after Xmas. Still have time to announce a 4TB card for CES.
