Sky King was an exciting series especially produced for children. Staring Kirby Grant as Sky in the main role and Gloria Winters as Penny who did a great job of portraying teens of the 1950's. The producer of this series past away after the first two seasons but it continued for four.

I always loved the show when I was growing up. I wanted to learn how to fly but I came from a family that just couldn't afford it. I did get to ride in a plane owned by my boss right after I graduated from high school, and not to long after that I joined the Air Force. I got to ride plenty of planes and even helicopters there. I'm an avid flight simmer so that has taken the place of my needing to pay for lessons in a real plane. One ex-girl friend I had once bought me a discover flight and the instructor let me fly for real. I loved it.

65 years ago today, the successful television series "Sky King" debuted on NBC. The title character “Sky” was an Arizona Rancher who frequently flew his Cessna T-50 and later his Cessna 310B named “Songbird” to help solve crimes and find hikers in the Arizona desert. The show aired on NBC, ABC and CBS from 1951-1966.

Enjoyed this show when I was a kid. Kirby Grant was on his way to Cape Canaveral in Fla. (1985 I think) to receive an award for his contribution to aviation when he was tragically killed in an automobile accident.

Oh how wanted to learn how to fly while watching Sky fly . I too did join the air force actually air guard . I found a man when I was in high school he was building a plane and he explained about the fabric that covered it and would put the wings on at the airport. it was bright yellow he said that was the primer it would be red when he was done but my folks would not let me go in the plane . I guess the didnt trust it to stay together. oh well.

How did they know that his name was Joe? He said it to himself before he made himself known to Mr. Frost and his partner in crime.
