When young, my Westie chewed an entire corner of a leather sofa, ends of two bookcases, ends on a grandfather clock and a wooden dresser. I then bought teething gel for dogs which really helped. After using the teething gel, he never chewed any furniture at all.

She's very sociable and wants to meet and greet her canine friends at training which was bad because we had to leave the group whenever she barked. I'm on ny seventh wonderful Westie ♡

Hello from Tucson Arizona! Thanks for the video! Our Tippi is now about 9 months old. We have had our share of challenges with behavior and allergies..but in the last 2 months she has really changed for the better. We changed her food to fresh..and she gets a Cytopoint injection every few weeks. I really think she was just very uncomfortable at the time and didn’t know how to tell us until it got obvious with her skin. She is very much a “teenager” but is a happy Westie now.😀

We’ve always liked Westies and decided to find one. Having a puppy has been a challenge at times! Our patience and training is definitely paying off now. She is really becoming a great dog. Thank you so much for this video! I have a Westie who is about to turn 2 years old and I could see myself in so many of the things that you said about teenage years. One thing that I would be curious to know is if Sami used to bark (a lot) when he was a teenager? And also, have you ever experienced if he has problems with specific dog breeds? My Westie, Kevin, can't stand Shiba Inu, Pitbulls or German Sheperds and it happens that in our neighbourhood we have quite a few of these, so every walk is an obstacle run trying to avoid meeting any of them eheh

She chewed one sock of mine and one sock of my husband’s, and one pair of underwear of mine and one pair of my husband’s! That’s it. She did take a while to potty train. We got a potty pan. Hello, want to pass on to you, be sure the dog food you are giving Sami does not create Stones in the bladder. My 12 year old Wetie developed stones in his bladder. Cost was nearly $1700 for the surgery to remove the stones! Check with your Vetinarian what he should eat to avoid stones. It is also more common in males. I love this breed and horpe you can avoid Sami from getting stones in his bladder. I have owned three Westies. Crate training is the way to house break. They will not pee in a dog crate. When puppy you put them in a crate then take them outside. They learn that way to not to pee in the house. During this training you do not allow them to run around in the house.
@WestieVibes5 ай бұрын
Hi! I know about stones in the bladder, unfortunately Sami used to have struvite crystals back when he ate a high protein diet. Now I control how much protein he gets and I always pay attention to his pee (we also do a urine test every 6-12 months just to see if all is ok; so far it is). Thank you for letting me know ❤️ I agree with the crate training. Sami was crated, but I also allowed him to pee on pee pads. It was a mistake 😂 Now I would do it differently. Thanks for sharing these tips 🙏🏻
@LVADnotVLAD815175 ай бұрын
Our Chloe had struvite crystals too. We got her when she was 7, from a breeder who got her at 6, when she was 'retired' as a puppy mill breeder. She was spayed right before we got her, then within 6 months she had to have surgery for the struvite. Then within another 6 months she swallowed a peach pit! She was like a little land shark! As soon as that pit started to fall she snatched it out of the air! A lot of the pits had splits in them, and since the kernel in the middle contains cyanide the vet said we had to get it out. Inducing vomiting didn't work so we ended up at an emergency vet. Instead of having her cut open yet again we chose to have it removed via endoscope, which cost twice as much!
@Idelia4125 ай бұрын
@teresacarmean3320 Vet bills can be expensive, but they are part of the family. My last Westie a female went into liver failure and I spent over $2000 trying to save her, but ended up having to put her down. It was very hard to do.

I watch your videos regularly and it really helps me to decide if Westie is for me so thank you for that, greetings from Croatia.

Hi Jelena, it's good that you are giving it a lot of thought. Westies can be high maintenance 😅 Like you said, you need to train them consistently, especially in the first year (they also have a lot of energy when puppies and they need to be given a "job" or else they can destroy things 😅). And they do tend to have health issues and allergies. But then again, any dog can develop allergies or health issues, no matter the breed (probably pure breeds are more sensitive though). And Westies are pretty independent, they have a happy nature and are so loyal and pure! ❤️ So really, there are pros and cons, like with any other breed. Thank you for watching our videos, I hope we can help you make the right decision for you! 🥰
