It is actually a pretty high hour one, since these will have the arc tube turn white first then it will go clear again and start blackening from end to center. This is what is known as a “wrapped frame” lamp . It is cost cutting in action! ONLY the 175 watt ones got this frame! This was partly because of the cheap yard blaster NEMA head fixtures. Cheers!

The 'B' on the stem press is Bath, NY. The '22' is February of either 1972 or 1982.

Very interesting! I used to have a need for a light with a known color temperature. To achieve the desired result I ran a new halogen with a calibrated overvoltage.

I had expected it to turn green-yellow-red/orange at the end but to my suprise it did not. 'Little' life story: When I was young (around 10) me and my dad use to go to a friend of him at a farm, in the barn was one very big armature with a Mercury bulb inside. Everytime we went there I rushed to the barn to put the light on, then I watched it for around 5 to 10 minutes as it warmed up, It would go through all kinds op color, starting from blue to green to yellow-red to white, after that I would turn it off or just let it stay on and go back. Only at the age of 23 I re-found my interest for light bulbs (and purely electric) only because I went back to school to study mechanics and made a small switch to electronics. Now-a-days I work as a electrician on industrial production machines (fixing them when the break down) It's an old factory which still uses Mercury lamps, every time one give up I'm first to grab the telehandler and change the bulb, only to watch it slowly glow to full brightness reliving those memories, some things never get boring!
