All the airline's in Canada are having problems retaining qualified aircraft mechanics because the pay, working conditions and responsibilities of an aircraft mechanic,( we're technically known as AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE ENGINEERS or AME'S) has not kept pace with the rising costs of living in this country. The public has for a very long time held this idea that AME'S are a highly paid and respected group which couldn't be further from the truth. Ppl are leaving this field due to the low pay and the fact there are better career options available today. With that in mind safety is going to be affected.
