Please excuse the hiatus but we're back with another instalment from Culture Shock. This time we head west and jump across the pond and hear from a few of our American Students. As always we delve into their world as they share their stories thoughts and views of life here in the UK as an International Student.

That one woman was right about owning a car in the states. If you don't have a vehicle here, you're fucked! People won't hire you, it'll be harder making friends, women won't date you (typically), and people immediately think you were busted for drinking and driving at some point. I think the closest job I ever had was a 15 minute drive to work. Walking was literally not an option. Either was biking, there was a stretch of highway on the way and the bus stopped once every 1 1/2 hours in my area of town.

+ice788 If you don't have a license, you're screwed. Want to rent an apartment? Driver's license required. P.O. Box? Driver's license required. Need to open a bank account? Driver's license required. I didn't know you had to drive, in order to have a bank account. Oh, and if you make a purchase, say, at Best Buy, or any other large retailer, and you need to return the item. Driver's license required.

+Roger Choatech You need an id but not necessarily a drivers license. Drivers licenses are most Americans primary ID but its not the ONLY one that can be used. All states issue non drivers license ids.

When I think of Britain I think of a grey misty moor, devoid of hope, with an old eery estaite and an old eery maidservant at the front door to greet you with grim, lifeless eyes, no nonsense sort of expression, like she's seen horrible things, lost all her relations to the black death, and now she's here to silently serve you and also the mysterious and reclusive lord of the manor, the last eir to the family estaite that's been slowly sinking into the bog for over two hundred years. The fact that it's haunted is never talked about.

Given that we live on planet with finite resources that will eventually run out, maybe having things smaller isn't a bad thing? I saw a crazy stat that if the world consumed resources at the rate America alone does, we'd need two and a half Earths or something.

LOL Even for continental it's small. My first visit to London I felt like I was Gulliver in hobbitland 😅 Not to mention the driving on the wrong side of the road. Was freaking me out for first week before I adjusted.

Glide Forever 70 is a C now?! Kids must be dense these days! I haven't been in school in 22 years and back then a 70 was 1 point above an F. If you were too dense to get a 70 or above you had to repeat the class/grade. Now it's considered average! This must be part of the coddling that the younger generations are being undermined with. nchs.nelson.kyschools.us/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/8J221-1.gif

+BeerDrinkersUnited 100 A+, 90 A-, 80 B-, 70 C- and so on. I don't know why you think a C is an average grade though, if you get Cs and high school, you're basically relegating yourself to community college
